HOW DO YOU SPELL FAIR?

It Sure ain't MCAS! Now I will be the fiirst to tell you I am none too good at formulatin formulations. Probably why my poetry hasn't caught on but these numbers confuse me. How about one of you smarter administration people help me figure this out?

Let's take a look at the data available (source - Please visit our MCAS Info and Results page for more.):

                                              ELA               MATH

FORD                                   69.6                71.9
HARRINGTON                    72.2               68.1
LYNN                                   79.0                71.3
STATE                                   86.7               80.3

So I was hoping somebody could explain just how HARRINGTON jumped TWO Levels to become a Level 1 school while FORD remained at Level 3 when HARRINGTON  was only 2.6 points higher in ELA and ACTUALLY 3.8 points LOWER in MATH than FORD (which scored HIGHER than the LYNN average)?

  1. Pretty sure accountability levels are based on PPI. Harrington's PPI scores were much higher than Ford's (which is no surprise because Harrington received MILLIONS in extra resources and services due to their level 4 status) Now that Harrington is no longer a level 4 school and they lose all those extras, they will drop right down again like they did before. Schools must fail in this district and state in order to get the resources and services they need to succeed. It's a vicious cycle!

    1. Sad but probably true. That is why a COMMUNITY SCHOOL model provides more solid, sustainable numbers for a lot less dollars. It's all about community partnerships!
