"The authority has committed to paying 80 percent of the $92 million Marshall Middle School project’s cost." Really? Does Thor know something we don't? I love how the Item and others continue to leave out the words "eligible costs" when talking about the state paying 80%.
Do you want new schools or not?
ReplyDeleteWanting new schools is not the issue. Coming up with the money to build new schools is! The city cost for the new Marshall is $43 million. My guess is a new Pickering will be about the same. The city currently also has a shortfall of $16 million in net school spending and that number will continue to grow until the city spends what it is required to on education. If the city cannot afford to adequately fund the schools we currently have without any additional costs for new buildings yet, how will the city be able to fund them and pay the millions for new ones in the future? So the question is not do we want new schools.....the question is where is the city going to get the money to build more new schools?
DeleteI would rather have GOOD schools than NEW schools. They aren't necessarily the same. No matter what we need HONESTY and the TRUTH.
