PHELAN'S ETHICS IN QUESTION?

People won't let this petition thing die. Today I learned of what I feel is CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT TIM PHELAN'S own admission of unethical behavior.

It is my understanding that as an elected official he is supposed to represent us citizens and not base his decisions on his personal benefit. That being said, here is an excerpt from an e mail response to LORI D'AMICO question COUNCILMAN PHELAN'S decision to sign a letter of support for SUPERINTENDENT LATHAM.

Thus I wanted to let you know I did not make my decision in a vacuum, gave it careful consideration and relied, in part, on someone I trust (my wife) absolutely, telling me "like it is" because, believe me, she is an independent woman who does not hesitate to speak her mind.

Hello, earlier in the same letter he mentioned how his wife is a PROGRAM SPECIALIST for LYNN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.  DR. LATHAM is of course, responsible for her promotion therefore her testimony is far from independent. In fact, some may even accuse of it as being quid quo pro.

I am not in a position to pass judgement, I'm just pointing out some facts. If it occurred someone else can file, I don't do well on the phone.

  2. I do not know Mr. Phelan, so I do not have an opinion about him. However, while I do not agree with his decision to sign and send a letter of support on behalf of Dr. Latham, I do appreciate that he at least took the time to respond to my email (even if it was almost a month later) No other city council member even bothered to respond, except Pete Capano who did respond immediately. I believe the reason for this is because they really do not know anything about the condition of our under-performing schools and our failing district. Therefore, rather than being faced with challenging questions on issues they know nothing about, they would rather ignore me.

    1. Funny you should point out PETE CAPANO. I was in the COUNCIL CHAMBERS when a vote was taken on the appointment of I think his daughter to the ARTS COMMISSION or whatever they call it. Wisely and ethically, he recused himself from voting on it. PHELAN never seemed to learn by his example. Now that I think of it, I seem to remember one of RICK FORD'S relatives being appointed to a teaching position he wasn't certified for. The plot thickens.

  3. Had I been elected, I would have not signed the Councilors endorsement of the Superintendent to not open the position.
I personally believe that Lynn City Councilors should have never signed any endorsement for any Superintendent.
We have elected politicians to to rule on this situation and they are the School Committee.
I stand in support of our schools, but we have a process, which involves the School Committee, not the City Council.
    Thank you,
    Robert Clay Walsh

  4. Sorry but the last thing this city needs is some one like Walsh. Given his criminal record for child enticement or sexual encounter with a minor under 14 years....being on a ankle braclet for one year (house arrest). goggle it!
It is amazing to me that he continues to consider running for anything. He should run out of Lynn!
Stop listening to Mayor Judy. She is using YOU!
    End of story!

    1. Leave Clay alone. He was found innocent. The minor lied to him. read the full case. And he didn't do anything. the only thing he is guilty of is not meeting people in person.
