ACTING QUALIFIED

My latest degree of concern is over degrees. From my understanding, albeit limited, teachers are required to get their Master's after FIVE years. And then there is that MENTORING thing. If you remember way back at that special meeting that our HONORABLE MAYOR called it was discovered that we were paying two residents at the same house $800 a day each to mentor teachers.

When this was brought to light they suspended their services. We were told by DR.WARRY if we didn't honor this contract, we would have to give a lot of RACE TO THE TOP money back. Well what eventually did happen? Inquiring minds want to know. I digress.

Back on focus. Teachers need advanced degrees but people in the administration don't have to have specific degrees. Unfortunately sometimes ACTING means just that, pretending to be qualified for the job.

  1. Find one administrator at Lynn public schools who is not qualified....I dare you! Their degrees are not fake llike one of your fav principals...they go to all the trainings unlike ur favorite principal...they conduct real trainings unlike ur fav principal. just look at your fav elemtary school, the person who runs it, not the principal does not have a masters degree.

  3. A real one I believe...double standards are not your style...acting jobs are only temporary and the people always have some advanced degrees. We spends thousands getting our educations, we never make the money back on our meager salary increments , a doctorate costs upwards of 75 grand and years of work we need to recertify every 5 years at our own expense time wise and often money wits, all of us small and and large and rHen spend $100 for one certification and more for each other one. Everyn5 years. Yet ur cronies belittle us as often as possible. I go to school on my time for many hours after school and several weeks in the summer. Last year it cost me over $1000 and that was with a free voucher for having a student teacher which was a ton of work for me too.

    1. Lat year KEVIN MCHUGH got a 7% salary increase while teachers got a 2.5% increase after going without one for how long? Is that fair?

    2. I am not sure what position you hold, but since you mentioned doctorate degree costs and that you go to school after hours and during the summer that you are a principal and not an administrator on Commercial Street. Speaking for myself, teachers, VP's and principals are all important and I have never belittled any of them. However, I have challenged them and have held them accountable on occasions where they were not performing their jobs as they should and I will continue to do so. The reason for this is because it is my child who bears the consequences. With that said, most of us have to pay thousands out of pocket in order to get our degrees and any recertifications, but that is a choice WE make. Most of us also have to work on our time in order to get things done. Again, a choice WE make. The bottom line is it is necessary for some positions to require an advanced degree, as well as experience. However, having an advanced degree, does not always mean a person is qualified for a position. There are many other essential skills one could be lacking. Finally, you mention spending all of this out of pocket money for your education. Imagine how teaches feel when they have to spend that kind of money just on the necessary supplies they need for their classrooms in order to teach because LPS does not provide them!

  5. I am not a principal. I do not know any teacher in a any school district who doesnt spend there is an automatic federal income tax deduction for $250 for teachers so I guess it's a national problem as well. I am not complaining just explaining. You are a critic without understanding what teachers go through to work year after year. It is a choice and 99% work hard to be where they are. There's no talking to you Lori. You are a very angry contrary person There is something in your life that make should so unhappy and confrontational. Good thing you don't have to face 30 kids every morning. Wow that would be ugly!!

    1. Regardless of your vocation, you sound like the bitter one. Jealously of other professions doesn't become you.

If people don't understand then teach them don't attack them. Maybe that is your problem in your classroom or more likely, your office.

Let's move the argument to the fact you have to the fact yoy have to face 30 faces every morning.

    2. Actually I understand 100% what teachers go through year after year (and day after day for that matter). As I've already stated, my issues are not, nor have they been with teachers. Although, I have crossed paths with some who should not be teachers because they do lack the essential skills. In fact, by you getting so upset and taking other people's opinions so personal that you resort to insults, only shows that you too lack the professionalism and some of those other essential skills I've mentioned. Life is all about choices and there is always going to be people who do not agree with you or share your feelings on certain issues. This is something we all must face and know how to handle. As always, I encourage all you LPS employees to at least have the courage to leave your names. Although, by some of the comments that are left, I can see why some of you may not want the parents to know that these are the people responsible for their childrens education and care during the school day. I wish you all the luck in the future as a teacher! Have a great day!
