A lot of people are asking me about the "Secretary of the School Committee". Who does "Uncle Tom" work for? Well you would think since the last two words in his job title would give one a clue. In my experience I am not so sure. My experience with "Uncle" was in a meeting when he was part of the BULLY BRIGADE (Consisting of Uncle T, Dr. Jaye and Queen C - sounds like a Rap group kickin it old school) Latham's office. Even with what some (I really don't know who) might call my lack of self-confidence, I was able to form a mutually respectful relationship (I practiced for hours in front of a mirror repeating the mantra "GOSH DARN, I MAY BE FROM WV BUT I AIN'T TOO AWFUL DUMB, MY COLLEGE WASN'T IVY LEAGUE BUT WE HAD IVY ON THE WALL"
Someone how much does he make? Someone said $92,000 (I think the LPS budget on line at the LPS web site will confirm that - check it out). A lot of money for someone who doesn't make coffee or take dictation. I doubt he even takes Dr. Latham's clothes to the DRY CLEANERS (more about that ridiculous stereotype later). I have heard other school systems have a part timer in that position. That could be a significant savings and may be able to be achieved with a little tighter role definition.
Another thing I have heard is there is some disagreement over the wording of the job title. There may be some truth there after all, "Secretary" is not too manly, but then again we don't have "Executive Director Of The Navy" or "Executive Director Of State" (Wait Secretary Clinton is a woman...but she does wear pants suits". Get over it, just do you job. We just need a better understanding what is your job and who do you work for.
