The light on in back of Drewicz School yesterday is symbolic of what is wrong with L.P.S finances: WASTE.
At the L.S.C. meeting last Thursday night, L.S.C member DONNA COPPOLA raised an important concern. It seems L.P.S made the papers for having an overdue electric bill. Makes one wonder if we are going to hold classes by candlelight?
Business Manager for L.P.S and former Lowell School Committee member Kevin McHugh, who just got a 5% pay raise that COPPOLA didn't vote for, explained it like this. That long before he came on board over three years ago, there was this disputed balance because there was these multiple accounts in the past and no one seems to be absolutely sure who owes what so we just pay for the current charges so we keep rolling over a balance. While we get by with not paying the disputed charge but we get stuck with continual late fees.
I may be wrong. You know about my track record. Copies of the bills don't end up in my mailbox. Numbers aren't my bag but then again, I'm not sure it's LPS's either. But there are lots of people more educated than me who haven't been able to solve this problem. They don't have any problem finding their salary.
