TIME TO GET SERIOUS!
I have not talked to anyone at LPS about plans for spending past years Title III funds, but 15I did speak to someone at the DESE and I was told the deadlines for claiming and using FY13 and FY14 grant funds have not passed yet, nor has the application deadline for FY 15 grants. Perhaps Congressman Tierney should have included this information in his letter.
And my response to Ron's comment is this: Any FY13 and 14 grant money LPS has not claimed or used can still be claimed and used. In fact, unspent portions of FY14 grant funds can be carried over to next year and these funds can be claimed until August 31, 2015. I do not recall Congressman Tierney mentioning any of this in his letter, but perhaps I missed it. I do recall him mentioning that these funds can be used to hire new teachers. However, based on information I received, the funds cannot be used to hire additional classroom teachers. As I have stated before, I urge people to do their own research rather than simply assume information being provided by others is accurate.
Again, I urge everyone to do their own research and contact the DESE and/or LPS to get information and not rely on what others, including myself, are saying. It's that simple.
That is funny - ask LPS about spending and funding and rely on their answer? Aren't they the ones that are have the net school spending issues and used retirement money when was not supposed to? Hardly reliable source.
According to Congressman Tierney, Lynn has not used over $980,000 in Title III funds from FY13 and FY14. According to his letter, he got this information from the DESE. However, according to my conversations with the DESE, they do not know what Lynn has actually spent yet and will not know until after Sept. 31, 2014. What the DESE does know according to their data is that Lynn has claimed all of their FY13 funds ($530,860) and has claimed $154,869 of the FY14 award of $449,389. Lynn is eligible to reapply for the remaining $294,520 as carryover funds to be used before August 31, 2015.

ReplyDeleteYou do know you are saying that WHAT YOU SAY MAY NOT BE ACCURATE!

ReplyDeleteLPS is just one source. If you do not feel they are a reliable one, then use another one, like the DESE.
DeleteSorry Lori, it would appear you think they are a reliable source.
DeleteShe is more reliable than most.
