BUSING BUDGET BLOWN, BABY!

This post us simply to give you something to think about. In order to open the Kindergarten Center for three schools - BRICKETT, FORD and TRACY $270,000 was budgeted for transportation. Okay that sounds like a lot but what does the figure look like now that 2 classes from SISSON because of MOLD in the rented rooms in the church and some pre-school classes from INGALLS are about to be added?

  1. I heard that Tim Phelan showed up at I believe Ford today without permission from the principal or the superintendent and wanted to ride the bus with the kids. Evidently the driver called and got approval from someone in dispatch. Turns out the dispatcher of course did not have the authority to give permission to the driver and as a result was demoted from his/her position and is now required to do some re-training. No one seems to know why Phelan showed up and wanted to ride the bus in the first place or why he would have done that without first getting approval from the principal and/or the superintendent. I do not recall Phelan being at all concerned about our schools or what goes on in them over the past several years he has been on the city council, do you? Except of course when he signed the letter in support of renewing Dr. Latham's contract and opposing the position being posted. Although, I do not recall him attending the public hearing regarding this to listen to all the concerns the parents had. I don't recall him ever attending a school committee meeting over the past couple of year either? Has he ever even stepped foot in one of our schools? To my knowledge, his children did not even attend Lynn Public Schools, correct? It is clear his recent concern and involvement in our schools is because he is trying to get elected for Mayor. It will be interesting to see if he remains this concerned and involved if he loses the election.

  2. I am really impressed to hear that Tim Phelan wanted to ride the bus this morning - I do not recall the current Mayor making such an effort. The talk has been the past four years that the current Mayor does not care enough about the schools. It would be great to have a Mayor that makes schools a priority. One does not need children in the public schools (Pat Capano, Charlie Gallo) to be concerned good schools. Steve Walsh, Tom McGee went to St. Mary's and a lot of teachers do not send their children to Lynn public schools. Tim Phelan has a special needs son going to college now which is very impressive.

  3. And Mrs. Phelan got outside placement (from Lynn schools) for that special needs son. He gave up on Lynn schools then and he'll give up on them if he's ever elected. He doesn't care about our schools, it's a nice act he's putting on though.

    1. FYI - There is a candidate for LSC that has consistently fought for outside placements and then there is KIPP another financial drain on LPS
