MORE BOOKS NOT MORE BEAN COUNTERS

A LETTER TO LYNNHAPPENS

Dear editor,

No one can reasonably argue with the overall concept of fully funding education. However the formula used to arrive at that artificial designation is so convoluted that it guarantees distortion of reality. A true objective analysis would be complete with detailed recommendations, complete with feasible solutions. Sacrifices will have to be made to insure the choices we claim to desire. Everyone needs to ask themselves just what are they willing to give up in order to make their stated goals happen.

"Making education a priority" needs to be more than a campaign slogan blaring from a bullhorn but rather a conscious decision that takes into consideration the actual cost of our commitment. It is not so much how much we spend as how we spend what we have. We need more books not more bean-counters.
