The blackout at Pickering Middle School may soon be lifted thanks to the gracious offer of help from one of he readers of Lynn School Watch. Mediaseth from "Lynnhappens" offered to volunteer his assistance to try and solve the problems at Pickering.
I talked to vice-principal, Mr. Ritterhouse to relay Seth's generous offer. Mr. Ritterhouse welcomed the information and said he was going to pass the info to the advisers who are running PTV and have them call Seth directly.
Just so you know Seth, you have some name recognition out there because when I mentioned Lynnhappens he knew said"Oh, I'll just have them call Seth direct".
I haven't heard from them, yet. But either way, I hope they have it running again soon. Media literacy, including television, internet, and what's left of radio, is vitally important. It's not only a 21st Century skill set, but a means through which to improve public speaking skills, awareness of others, awareness of advertising and current marketing trends, and while doing so with a hands-on-approach, teach teamwork and technology.
ReplyDeleteA thorough examination of modern media can even help alleviate obesity, low self esteem, and other image/peer related issues teens often face.
Or, maybe I'm reading a little too far into this program. :)
