KIPP GETS HICO'S VOTE

Tonight's HIGHLAND COALITION meeting started off with some great food from CAFE COLOMBIA at 34 ACORN ST in LYNN held at KIPP. KIPP has graciously offered HICO meeting space FREE of charge. We don't get that kind of cooperation with LPS.

We talked about the same stuff we always do community engagement, income inequality, the importance of education, gardening, and moving a polling place up to the HIGHLANDS except this time instead of advocating to put it into the FORD SCHOOL, now we are pushing for placement at KIPP.

In the past despite a ruling from the HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION that basically the HIGHLANDS were disenfranchised by the removal of voting from the FORD SCHOOL,CITY COUNCIL always justified their gerrymandering by appealing to a perversion of ADA. FORD is an old school you know. Well HICO decided to switch their efforts to trying to secure KIPP as a voting place. Now there is some anti-KIPP history with HICO but we are all about the neighborhood. While there may have been some argument about them coming, they are here now and they're being great neighbors.

They've offered using their place as a polling place and as a new building takes the ADA compliance thing off the table. Still there are rumblings of resistance. "WHAT, COULD THERE BE ANOTHER REASON THEY DON'T WANT THE HIGHLANDS PEOPLE TO VOTE?" Well, we got a grant from MASS VOTES anyway and NATASHA MEGIE-MADDREY is on the case and be working on a getting the VOTE OUT, no matter where it is.

"So your move council, no really we would like to move."

  1. Didn't Mary Audley recommend KIPP as a voting place like 2 years ago? What happened with that?
