TIME TO GET SERIOUS!
Six months after the Lynn School Committee voted to end its long relationship with Gordon College, the president of the Christian college in Wenham is hoping to renew ties to the North Shore’s largest public school district. D. Michael Lindsay was one of 14 religious leaders who last July signed a l…
I love Donna Coppola's comments. It is obvious she is on School Committee for the children as opposed to Gallo who is only there as a stepping stone to higher office and who put politics before education.
The Gordon College public relations stunt continues. Rather than retract the intent to discriminate against the gay and lesbian community, Gordon President D. Michael Lindsay has hired the same public relations firm that recently represented the losing side in the Market Basket battle. Please do not believe their distorted facts. The truth is that Gordon did not contribute significantly to the Lynn Public Schools. At the time the ties were severed, Gordon's volunteer plans were limited to involvement in just two grades at just one school. The truth is not on the side of Lindsay or his PR firm in this matter. If he cared at all about Gordon, he would resign and go back home to Mississippi. - Charlie Gallo
C'mon Charlie, now we are counting heads? If they help one school, Lynn needs this. As matter of fact stated by Latham they help more than one school. 3 or 4. Didn't you read the article?
LPS was celebrating the partnership between LPS and Gordon College for the 11 years the two worked together. In fact, LPS was celebrating the partnership in July until the decision was made just a few weeks later to sever ties. Gordon College and LPS worked together for 11 years. For you to claim that Gordon did not contribute significantly to LPS over the 11 years is absolutely ridiculous. During those 11 years, Gordon students worked with hundreds, if not thousands of LPS students. During those 11 years, not a single complaint was ever made against any Gordon College student. During those 11 years, Gordon College had the same Christian beliefs and code of conduct. During those 11 years, LPS never had an issue with those religious beliefs and code of conduct and it is extremely hypocritical for committee members to claim to have a problem with those religious beliefs now, when they themselves are members of organizations that share those same beliefs. There will be a public hearing on the matter within the next few months. Hopefully the committee recinds the vote to sever ties, but if not, perhaps the next committee elected will.
11 years ago Gordon had a different president, Lynn had a different superintendent, and the makeup of the school committee was different. I was still in college 11 years ago; I was studying for exams, not celebrating Gordon, as you make it seem. Gordon was not thrown out of the schools for its religious beliefs; Gordon was thrown out of the schools because of its intent to discriminate. That was new last year, not 11 years old. Gordon has not, for 11 years, signed on to letters to Presidents of the United States showing an intent to discriminate against people for being gay. They started that in 2014, and the Lynn School Committee shortly thereafter severed ties with them. Gordon was, by that time, a minor player in the Lynn public schools with a minimal impact on our students, in fact absolutely no impact on most of our students. Gordon's volunteer plans were limited to involvement in just two grades at just one school. - Charlie Gallo
It is disappointing that a school committee member is so unaware of what Gordon's involvement has been over the past 11 years, as well as at the time ties were severed. Last July (just a few weeks before your witch hunt against Gordon began), LPS and Gordon College were celebrating their partnership. This celebration included THREE grades at TWO elementary schools.
As for the letter Mr. Lindsay signed, along with many other religious leaders, you of course are entitled to your interpretation of it.
Instead of saying that Gordon contributed so much to the schools, why not give specific examples of what they did. The Lynn schools have volunteers and student teachers from many other colleges too that are doing as much or maybe more than Gordon's 8 student teachers were. Where are your statistics and reports to back up your claims of Gordon's importance.
In surprise vote, Kentucky Senate panel approves limits on transgender students' choices Without providing much notice, the Senate Education Committee on Monday night voted 8-1 to require transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their biological sex or to seek special accommodations, such as a unisex bathroom. Lori and others protesting have no idea of the exact CURRENT involvement that Gordon College was having in Lynn. Much had been scaled down. Plus from previous posts your group has written the past 6 months, it is obvious that you all don't understand what the problem was and the federal policy that Pres. Obama enacted last June and the letter that Gordon president signed afterwards. Massachusetts is ot Kentucky or the deep south.
Obviously some of the LSC members didn't either. I have read what appeared to be wrongful statements written by CHUCK. I mean hopefully they weren't intentional misrepresentations and due to plain ignorance. I mean I already have concerns with his legal knowledge about the constitution and some basic legal constructs.
Well, Gordon's CURRENT involvement is obviously none, which is why there will be a public hearing. If you are referring to their involvement before ties were severed, then you are mistaken because I and others do know what their involvement was.

LORI, looks like CHUCK'S checking out.
DeleteWell now CHARLIE, you should know something about PUBLIC RELATIONS firm like the one LPS hired. You know, the same one with ties to the ITEM.
