SHOWDOWN OVER SHUTDOWN

Dear friends & allies,
In the past few years, the Highlands have seen the loss of their polling location, the City's neglect of the Cook Street park, the displacement of the VFW Post to make way for the KIPP School despite community resistance, and the re-drawing of precinct lines that has resulted in a lack of representation for the Highlands in City Hall. Now the neighborhood is facing the loss of services for elementary age kids and their parents, who rely on Ford's after-school program, tutoring, and adult education classes.

The Ford School, Lynn's 1st and only community school, is a resource this community will lose if we do not stand up together.
Join Lynn Parents Organizing For A Better Education in demanding that the Mayor, Superintendent, School Committee, and the new Ford principal restore the Ford School's community school programming. We want more community schools, not less!
Thursday, December 11, 6pm
100 Bennett St. Lynn

Bring your voices, bring signs, bring your friends. You can forward this email to your networks and print copies of the flyer attached!

There is also a petition attached: print it out and collect signatures! This is a great way for people who can't make it to the action to make their voices heard. (Anyone can sign this petition, regardless of citizenship status or where they live in the city.)

We look forward to seeing you there!

In hope & solidarity,
Lissy

  1. I could not open the petition. Where else can we find it? Lissy stated anyone can sign the petition. However, if this petition will be used to force a pubic hearing on the issue, then yes anyone can sign it, but not everyone's signature will count. Only signatures of registered Lynn voters will be certified and individuals must be registered at the address he/she puts on the petition. Also, if the signature is not legible, it may not be certified.

  2. Are you suggesting that old broken down eye sore VFW was better for neighbors than a new school building? Cook Street garden is wonderful - and the city is putting in new playground equipment now. Is Ford really losing the community school or is that such talk?

    1. A community school is NOT a building. It is a philosophy, a model.

  3. Yes but with the philosophy you need action...there was only smoke and mirrors.
