Three students from Lynn are among 350 eighth-graders participating in Project 351, a statewide community-service program. Denelis Acosta of Pickering Middle School, Marilyn De Leon of Marshall Middle School, and Tyrese Joseph of Breed Middle School were nominated by their principals and teachers to represent their schools and the city. The three Lynn students and other Project 351 ambassadors recently spent the day in Boston, beginning with a youth Town Hall meeting at Faneuil Hall led by Governor Deval Patrick. Students spent the afternoon performing community service at a number of sites in Boston, then attended a closing forum at the State House. Students are nominated for the program based on exemplary service to others, leadership, and their embodiment of the values of compassion, commitment, humility, and kindness. Originally a one-day event, Project 351 is now an independent nonprofit organization whose student ambassadors participate in community service and leadership activities throughout the year. Each is encouraged to establish a service project in their school.
