SCHOOL SAFETY SHAM

I attended a SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL meeting today at FORD SCHOOL and I heard some TROUBLING news!

It seems a couple of weeks ago a young girl escaped from an attempted abduction. The alleged perpetrator was incarcerated, put under $5000 cash bail, and MAY still be incarcerated. This incident took place on HOLLINGSWORTH, the same street where 600 kids go to school.

LET ME TELL YOU PARENTS ARE CONCERNED.

After some discussionn it was decided that a call should be made to OFFICER FERRARI of LPD. It was hoped to get some kind of STRANGER-DANGER talk, you know simple precautionary stuff.......

BUT......

NO.....

for whatever reason this idea was DENIED. This is OUTRAGEOUS.  When I used to work for a living before I became a POET, I had to get RECERTIFIED every year. You would thinkour kids safety would beworth the time to teach them about personal saftety EVERY YEAR.

DON'T WE GO TO SCHOOL TO LEARN?

  1. First of all, why wasn't this story exploding on the front page of the Item??? Do you have documented proof of this ALLEGED incident? Oh, wait!! It came out of FORD, so it must be true, RIGHT??? Why should it fall on one person (off Ferrari), who by the way, has MORE than enough to keep him busy. He is NOT the school safety officer, someone else holds that title (I'll let you do the research on that). Moreover, why doesn't the BEST principal in the world take care of talking to kids about this???

    1. You are so funny. Guess you didn't read your Item, guess it was exploded all over the third page. Don't feel bad, I can't afford a subbscription either. The Safety talk should be given in EVERY school, not just FORD. Of course Officer Ferrari is too busy to ersonally talk the talk but there can be designees. Just like the Fireman's STOP,DROP and ROLL talk. A few words can go along way..

  2. It was not reported because the principal in question does not like to call the police. Incidents are handled there so no one can say what a bad neighborhood, etc. this has been going on for years and years and years. Why can't parents talk to their kids ? How about the school adjustment person, teachers, people kids know well and trust?? And as for officer Ferrari he has done an excellent job and is busy 24/7 .

    1. Hello, you just went from funny to stupid. Perhaps you can't read. I said it was reported in the ITEM- page 3. You have an inaccurate picture of that neighborhood. The police will tell you crime has went way down in that neighbirhood. It ihas probably the best organized neighborhood organization i the city, the HIGHLANDS COALITION (My son and I are on the board of directors). It is apparent you just have an ax to grind. Be careful you don't cut your nose off to spite your face,

  3. Anonymous, the Principal of said school TRIED to send announcements to the parents and was told NO, don't "Blow this out of proportion, it's an 'isolated incident'". I AM a parent and I DO have safety discussions with my children constantly, but you know what?, sometimes it bears reinforcement from authority figures, ie: the police, fire etc. Amazing how much impact that has on children! As Stan pointed out, it's something that should be done in every elementary school at least once a year. The incident WAS reported to the police by the person it happened to. It did not happen ON school grounds, but within a few houses of the school. I am also a parent who walks my children to school, and will continue to, but unfortunately, not every parent is able to do that. I'm not sure what your problem is with Ford, we have a Principal who actually CARES about the students, families and neighborhood and tries to make things better. Why is that a problem for you? I have no issues with the job that Mr. Ferrari does per se, but why is afraid to say anything to anybody about this? Will it take having a child actually abducted before it's deemed something to be addressed ASAP? By the way, I will actually USE MY NAME in this post as opposed to being "Anonymous"
