Removal of mural

Dear Dr. Latham,

I am hearing troubling reports out of Robert L. Ford Elementary School and I was hoping you can correct what I hope is false information. There are reports that the interior murals in the school were painted over or otherwise destroyed.

Since they were painted and presented as a gift by and from some students at GORDON COLLEGE their removal would be subject to the LSC policy below:

Not only would it be a violation of policy without prior school committee approval, it also represents a callous insensitivity to the diversity that makes up the Ford community. Such blatant and brazen attempts to rewrite history and manipulate reality only reveal a dark, polarizing bias.

Sincerely,

Stan

  1. Explain where there is there a policy violation?

    1. Duh, the paintiing was a gift and as such its removal would have to come before the school committee. I didn't go to HARVARD or PENN law school but that seems pretty clear to me.

    2. The policy, as you posted it, doesn't make any mention of the "removal" of gifts having to go to the School Committee, only the acceptance of gifts in certain circumstances. DUH!!

    5. Again, it is referring to the receiving of gifts. Maybe you should read it again.

    6. Haha, you are funny. Yes you are right to some extent. It doesn't explicitly say anything specifically about removal. I would take my chances that because this is a more civil than criminal matter that most judges would reasonably extrapolate the language to cover the gifts removal. I do acknowledge given the political makeup of the school committee there is a bias against Ford School and even an unconscious predijuice against its students. In the bigger picture why would anyone want to donate to any public school to be disrespected. As such, they only have themselves to blame for the rise of charter schools. Prepare to be devastated.

    7. So, it's just how you choose to spin it, not the reality!! You're making some pretty serious allegations about the current committee and again, it's all in how you spin it to say that any of them favor any school over any others is slanderous. It was a different story when Dr. Crane was there and certain school committee members acted as if Ford was the only school in the district and that was acceptable to you. Those days are thankfully over!!

  2. The policy actually does specifically stated any changes made to plant or site must go through school committee. Therefore, removal of the mural would be considered a change and would require school committee approval.
