In the wake of former principal Claire Crane's retirement, much of the Ford School's community programming, including its adult education courses, have been eliminated. Join us as we speak out in an effort to restore this essential programming to the school and community.

  1. Aside from the adult ESL and GED classes, what other programs have been eliminated? I and others have repeatedly asked this, but have not received a response. People have talked about the different programs and services the community school model offers, but have not provided the specific programs that have been eliminated at Ford. I think it is important to inform the public about all the programs that have been eliminated, especially when asking people to join in rallying to restore them.

I also found the following article that LPOBE posted to be very interesting. It states that Catholic Charities offers a morning and evening ESL class for parents at Cobbet. If everyone remembers, Catholic Charities signed the very same letter that Gordon College's president did. So why was there not an uproar about severing ties with Catholic Charities like there was about Gordon College? The article is from January, so perhaps this program and the relationship with Catholic Charities no longer exists? I have emailed the school committee and Superintendent asking this very question. I have not received a response, but will share the information if and when I do.

  2. I have been told these ESL classes do still exist at Cobbet. Therefore, it appears as though LPS is doing a little discriminating of their own against Gordon College. How does LPS think it is acceptable to continue a relationship with Catholic Charities, but not with Gordon College? I am sure LPS will do what it does best and remain silent on the issue in hopes that the public is too clueless to know what's going on and that the issue will just go away. Perhaps we will know more once the public hearing is held.
