Week’s worth of violence worries local teens
What role do our schools play in this recent uptick in violence? The easy answer is to say LITTLE since our kids spend more time with their parents than their teachers. Really you might want to rethink your position. There is a lot of poverty out there but not all of them are as fortunate as ME. They are the WORKING POOR. Actual family time is a lot less than you think
It's the CULTURE that's created that provides a ready enviroment for violence to grow. All of this HIGH STAKES TESTING and pressure to achieve, not to the best of your ability but to surpass some artificial, arbitrary standard. Learning has lost its luster. Fun has lost. Laughter is not digital.
So administrators pressure teachers to measure what can be measured. Raise the standards when clearly the roof is on fire. Our kids learn what they see. Bullys are on top so that must be the way to succeed. Make them give you what you think you need even at the point of a metaphorical gun,
A word to the wise though, "You never know who's packin" and the pen is mightier than the sword.
