LPS deserves mad props fortraying to encourage the public to get educated about the plant o close or rather repurpose
UNION HOSPITAL and change it from a complete care facility into what passes for a mental health dumping ground for those patients on the NORTH SHORE.
I got nothing against mental health patients. I know quite a few, in fact since I'e been married four times so there are several people who would say I need to partake of said services. I mean I not only majored in psychology, I worked for SEVEN YEARS in a BEHAVIORAL TREATMENT FACILITY FOR ADOLESCENT MALES and I retired from MA DMR so I am sensitive to the target population. That is EXACTLY why I think this is a bad plan that
PARTNERS. In fact it seems almost a
CRIME.

In speaking with candidate for Attorney General, Warren Tolman who came to Lynn in a Meet'n Greet....
ReplyDeleteAfter he mentioned society 'needs more mental health care, because it wouldn't be right to leave an addict without a bed'.....
I asked if he was aware Lynn would be without beds to help general care such as an heart attack. And I ask if he would take on the issue rolling into the next term, as the petitions are currently targeting the AG.
His response was on board. Lynn needs to maintain the hospital beds for the general public, and if there is a need to expand more mental beds, that is a separate issue.
My thoughts are -However, does Lynn and this region really need to increase beds for mental health since this 'expansion' is merely a restructure, taking on beds from other hospitals in other cities.
What happened to Dukakis' de-institutionalization act?
Why is the only solution - institutional? ... It isn't the only answer. I know because I have helped people overcome the challenge of their 'disabilities'.
When will the system stop bullying society?
If you want to know what happened to the Dukakis deinstitutioanlzed act go to the Lynn Public Library any day and you can find those deinstitutioanlzed people sleeping on the tables
ReplyDeleteIt is not easy on society or the individuals either to live within a medicated life. There is a slow progression away from profiteering health care. There are professionals working on real healing solutions.
DeleteMy elderly father was in a geriatric mental health care unit at union hospital due to dimensia . He was no threat to anyone except himself. We had to wait weeks for him to get abed because there aren't enough . We need this expansion. More and more elderly with mental health issues, these people aren't addicts or criminals.
ReplyDeleteEveryone is fooled to think this is an expansion. Parters is reorganizing bringing beds from other places to Lynn.
DeleteThat is not true. People don't stay overnight as much as they used to, day surgery is the norm now so a lot less beds are needed for inpatient use. However, more and more mental health issues have created the need for additional in patient beds especially among the elderly, there are a lot more of them than there used to be. Also more young children need inpatient mental health care and there is no where to go, not enough beds. No one is dumping on Lynn, sick people staying overnight in a hospital is on decline. Mental health issues on the rise....they are in business to make money end of story.
