I just checked the latest DESE compliance reports, which were updated on July 21, to see if they reflect the same information Mr. Caron mentioned at the meeting. According to the report, Lynn's FY14 net school spending requirement was $183,325,543, including $9,553,357 in carryovers from FY13. Lynn only spent $166,013,231, resulting in a $17,312,312 shortfall and $8,623,703 penalty. According to the same report, Lynn's FY15 net school spending requirement was $197,648,794, including $17,312,312 in carryovers from FY14. Lynn budgeted to spend $181,960,670, which will result in a $15,688,124 shortfall and $6,671,300 penalty. Perhaps Mr. Caron and the Mayor know something the rest of us don't, but until I actually see documentation from the DESE or other state agency, stating figures other than these as the current ones, I think I will stick to this information updated and posted by the DESE.
