TECH TRYING TO BE TOPS

Unfortunately I had to miss BRIAN FIELD, CANDIDATE for WARD 7 COUNCILMAN'S FALL FINAL thing last night but I had a couple of things. One was the OPEN HOUSE at LVTI. Got to keep up on TRIPPY'S progress, you know. Got to at least play the role of a good parent.

Then there was the other thing. There was a SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL MEETING that I had hoped to still be on after kind of disappearing last year thanks to the weather and back issues. Let me say right up front, it is my objective opinion that I am prejudice toward TECH. I can't help it. I just think it is an alternative that works for a segment of the student population. Also, I predict that segment will be growing.

It was good to see RICK STARBARD there not only because he is a current LSC member but also a candidate for a COUNCILOR-AT-LARGE position. RICK is of course a TECH alum so his presence wasn't a TOTAL surprise. He left after a bang-up presentation by KIM MCFARLAND the DATA guru at TECH on all things accountability and the ebbs and flows of progress.

With a current enrollment around 857 plans are in the works for a more proactive recruiting proocess that includes LVTI councilors visiting the middle schools rather than waiting on the middle schools sending kids to them, possibly setting up a table at the respective middle schools open houses with possibly parents and/or current students joining them, and MR. BOUNTEMPO'S (LVTI principal) hope for improvement to the school's website so that it "POPS" showcasing the school's many attributes. Also when the eight graders tour he hopes to show them a working shop rather than a shop where they work. Of course having a CHAMPIONSHIP caliber football team helps. GO TIGERS!
