To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this morning to express my outrage at the travesty committed against
the children by defacing their artwork along the ramp at the Ford School.Painting
over it was nothing less than graffiti on a large scale. You all really need to be more
cognizant of the lessons you teach.
Both of my children participated in the painting of that mural and the reckless
defacing of their work injures me personally. In these times of racial volatility that mural
represented a much needed harmony of spirit. Destroying it without any opportunity for
public input could be perceived by some as nothing less than a "hate crime" and some
may choose to prosecute it as such.
Although I understand every act of regular maintenance can not and should not come
before the committee as a whole and be subject to public scrutiny, clearly this piece
of art was an exception. With the addition of the destruction of the community garden
at the school, a distinct pattern has been established showing your complete lack of
respect for the children and the community they represent.
Although I am use to not receiving a response from these letters, realize this. Your
silence on this matter will represent active participation in this decision even if you
had no prior knowledge. Remember that old line your mothers used to say about the
company you keep. Stand up to stand out.
Hopefully, I look forward to someone's prompt response.
Stan
