Well I understand what this is trying to say. Yeah, "GIRLS CAN DO ANYTHING!". Even in the coal field of Appalachia they do teach some higher-order thinking. But then again I have been reading a little while so I don't get overwhelmed by the IMAGES.
This one slide is very efficient in a bad way. Two groups are "put down" at once - WOMEN and HASIDIC JEWS.
More likely than not when little kids walk away from this lesson and reflect back they are not as likely to remember the sophisticated concept that is trying to be portrayed or the lack of the use of an apostrophe to show possession but rather the reinforcing of BIGOTRY and MISGONY.
"Women and others"...what does that even mean? Maybe they could mention the pay gap that still exits, even for engineers. And why is there no image of the actual j.o.b. mentioned? How about showing images of women engineers in burkas? Who creates these programs and who is buying them....
ReplyDeleteThe program was developed by LPS probably at a cost of over $200,000 but the actual amount is hard to determine because of the time spent by all the members on the TEAM. You can bet some RACE TO THE TOP grant money was involved.
