Eileen Catizone conducted professional development at Ford School during the last three months of her tenure at Ford. She instructed teachers in the fine arts of phoneme segmentation, teaching grades 1 - 5 teachers how to sound out words. She also taught teachers the 4 methods of syllable division. Currently, the Lynn Public School curriculum department uses a 6 method approach. Ms. Catizone and her professional development concepts were in direct conflict with the district concepts. Teachers were put in an awkward situation. In particular, teachers knew ms. Catizone was not certified as a reading teacher.
