Dear Dr. Latham,
It has come to my attention that Principal LaRivee may have allowed an unlicensed
person conduct professional development that was in direct conflict with district
policy. The following comment was left on my blog,
Eileen Catizone conducted professional development at Ford School
during the last three months of her tenure at Ford. She instructed
teachers in the fine arts of phoneme segmentation, teaching grades
1 - 5 teachers how to sound out words. She also taught teachers the
4 methods of syllable division. Currently, the Lynn Public School
curriculum department uses a 6 method approach. Ms. Catizone
and her professional development concepts were in direct conflict
with the district concepts. Teachers were put in an awkward situation.
In particular, teachers knew ms. Catizone was not certified as a reading
teacher. ,
While I am aware of the ANONYMOUS comments it would seem in this case the facts
are easily able to verify and the potential violations are so severe that a quick confirmation
of guilt or innocence is warranted. Given your history of ignoring me I am prepared to seek
the necessary resolution through proper channels.
I am sure you share with me the desire to see the teachers placed in a situation that violated
the ethics of professionalism. If the actual facts of the situation vindicate Ms. LaRivee then
I feel sure that the teacher's morale will be lifted because of your willingness to protect their
professional integrity.
It is my hope that this matter will be acted on swiftly thereby eliminating any possibility of
any charges of hypocrisy or of failure to adhere to previously approved policies and standards.
I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Stan
