Bring Voting Back to the Highlands
Voting = Resources and Power
When the Ford School was a polling place, voting steadily
increased in the Highlands. In 2004 the
Election Commission and City Council stopped voting there and divided the
Highlands into Wards 2 and 4.
Residents now vote at No. Shore Community College or St.
Pius Church, which are not in the Highlands. Voting has dropped by 30%,
reaching a low last year of 11% of the registered voters.
In 2014, we argued at the Human Rights Commission that the
removal of voting at the Ford School
was a violation of the rights of Highlands voters. Councilors Rich Colucci and Bill Trahant
supported us. The Commission agreed with us; however, matters got worse.
Ward 4 voting this year takes place at
the Lynn Museum, which is over-crowded and lacks parking. Ward 2-4 voting is not in the
neighborhood.
We want voting at KIPP for Wards 4-1 & 4-2 and
2-4.
