It is, I guess, because it is paid for out of TITLE 1 grant money and ell all you got to be is poor and money from this grant follows the student whether it's LPS, a private school, or that quasi-public one called KIPP.

LPS budgets $68,000 for a READING teacher at ST. PIUS and $31,000 for a PARA at SACRED HEART. How is this legal you may ask?

A TIME TO ACT?
Boy is LPS going to be in trouble again. With around 2500 students in SPECIAL ED and a long time leader retiring next month, I really don't know what they are going to do. I mean I always heard as long as someone is actually in the position they can't legally post the position.
Then maybe I've heard wrong because I saw SUE ROWE sitting in her regular position at the table at the LSC meeting last THUR and her position has already been posted, interview conducted, and a new DEPUTY selected. What gives. Did I hear wrong?
Whatever, I hope they hurry on finding a NEW person to take over SPED since there are a complicated web of regulations in this area. Oh well, the past has proven LPS no stranger to violations.

PAC GOODBYE
Just came from the last PAC meeting of the year. Got nominated for TREASURER. Whew an election I stand a chance of winning!
It wasn't all electoral frivolity though. On a sad note I got to hug DR. CHERYL MENINO goodbye as she will be retiring next month after 37 years in the system. She will surely missed. We spent a few moments going over scrapes that we have been in together and against each other. I have always respected her professionalism and dedication to the job.
As a parting comment to her I did say that I thought she picked the perfect time to leave as I envision multiple struggles and challenges ahead in the department due to the coming fiscal restraints. Try as I might I couldn't pull out ant juicy tidbits or her insights into the future, a professional to the end.
Oh well, my IMAGINATION has served me well so far.

RETIREMENT AHEAD
LPS will be losing the DIRECTOR of SPECIAL ED, DR. CHERYL MENINO. Now I have had nothing but good dealings with her but I realize I am who I am,SQUEAK, SQUEAK. The past couple years at PAC have seen improvement. Granted it can always get get better but there has been a DRASTIC improvement in the lines of communication with LISA BISHOP at the helm of PAC.
Given the SIGNIFICANT portion SPECIAL ED plays in the budget and the stringent federal laws that accompany the program, everyone should be very concerned about her replacement.
