YOU THOUGHT YOUR VOTE COUNTED

Opposition mounts to Munroe school site

Opposition mounts to Munroe school site

Maybe it did, just not for what you think. I was talking to someone who was outraged at the thought of ANOTHER Charter school. How could this happen they asked? "We just had an election. The voters in MA voted said NO on 2.",

Well KEEPING THE CAP may sound nice to some people but that wasn't a complete moratorium. There still can be I think 12 new schools or expansions a year already on the books. You can count all the votes you want anyway, it's the money that matters. Guess what? Maybe it used to be but it's not yours now.

Hey all of you YES voters, I thought you cared about overcrowding? KIPP people were your "brothers in protest" in the effort to get two new schools. Won't this help overcrowding a little? LOL. This plan was well in the works before any vote was cast.

Funny to hear the location argument now. Seems like everybody has a back yard. The argument that it wouldn't be appropriate in an :ART" district is the MOST hilarious. If you truly cared about the sanctity of creativity that would make it the perfect location. What better place to get an appreciation od the "ARTS"?
I guess some people would rather have their kids next to a graveyard than be exposed to  the ARTS.

NOW I MAY NOT LIKE CHARTER SCHOOLS BUT I HATE HYPOCRITES WORSE.

ELECTION LULLABY

JFK and Thomas M. McGee
Both running for MAYOR don't you see.
S-P-E-N-D-I-N-G

Worried once they get elected
The school budget will be neglected
And all are little children affected.

To keep them accountable, I'll do my best.
As always I've got a lot on my chest.
Will I get answers? Ha, ha, you know the rest!

RELITIGATING THE LOSS

While finding a "NEW" site is not as easy as finding an empty parking space, conversation does matter for clearer discussion. Until recent school committee meetings I was a fairly regular speaker at "Open Mic". In fact some times I was the only one in the audience.

I have been doing this blog for seven years, written scores of letters, however I have NEVER gotten a call from the MAYOR (Although she has called me out at her STATE OF THE CITY  speeches a few times) or a letter or Dr. Latham. Although DR. LATHAM did corner me before an :LSC meeting to discuss the merits of a particular poem. There was the threat of someone getting a lawyer. Good thing it didn't make me shake in my boots because I have bad balance.

Sure engagement has to be a two way street but there is a history of suppressing it. Granted the MSBA rules are complicated and cumbersome and charter schools get to circumvent them drastically lowering their cost and giving them an "unfair" advantage.  But citizens don't buy much AD SPACE so it is more cost effective to attack individuals than corporations

PROMISES MADE IN THE SHADE?

ON COMMAND

"I'm not a racist!" is not something you have to tell
Others will say to you if all is well.

The moment you try to defend,
The opposite is the message you send.

Because of that we are left with a song
"Why can't we all just get along".

It's not really a matter of good mental health
Just Love your neighbor as Yourself!

AS I WAS SAYING AND COMING CLEAN

School spending ‘thorn in our side,’ mayor says
Nothing new here. We have been the 5th largest school district for a while so that must mean other school districts are growing but we always seem to have the worst  time. Woe is me. I know let's blame the city;s mismanagement on the immigrants.

Sorry, this is not the ONLY place this so-called problem just the ONLY place with NO solutions.

UNCHOSEN ONE

At least the SPED staff is now full
But an "Acting" Director for a year is nothing but bull.

Still on this don't be mistaken,
My confidence has been permanently shaken.

Everyday CIVIL RIGHTS are under assault
My growing fear is LPS's fault.

Stability is best to protect our rights,
Cause everyday brings brand new fights.

SILENT RIGHT

On this point let me be clear,
Free speech does not include freedom to hear.

On this one thing there should be no schock
On things on which I disagree, expect a block.

You're entitled to your point of view
Just don't want to be exposed to the venom you spew.

The reason I reason
Is right for the political season.

BEAUTIFUL BEHAVIOR BANTER

I really wanted to post a positive story earlier because there is so much polarization out there but of course I get pulled in by the latest perceived injustice. The story was going to be about the informative, great program last night by the PROGRAM SPECIALIST for the COACH program, MIKKI DIVIRGILLIO  and her assistant Nora (I am sure I have that wrong since I don't take notes I would appreciate it if someone would correct me so I can fix it).

Back now to being fust ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, JESSICA MCGLAULIN (LYNN CATARIUS is now ACTING DIRECTOR {learned that last month from a comment on the WATCH) a great program was put on at the PAC.

SUBLIMINAL RACEBAITING?

Lynn fire stations burned by budget cuts

I am going to receive a good deal of flak for throwing that suggestion out there but it is so obvious  to me I had to point out the blatant hypocrisy. My commitment is to honesty and the truth and what the heay, no one likes me anyway.

Although Lynn is certainly a diverse city and applying the laws of probability a wide variety varying ethnic origins could have photobombed the photograph. It just appears to me to be someone  who doesn't fit the white, Irish profile. Why was it necessary to have anyone in the shot? Is the Item so cash strapped that they can't afford film for another shot unobstructed by a citizen? Are you having questions of documentation and was that the real intention? Maybe not but the juxtaposition is just kind of curious to me. Of course it just could be my own paranoid delusions resulting from the long term effects of my brain damage.  It just seems a little funny in a hypocritical way given all this apparent introspection and self-examination being published by the paper right now.

The current MAYOR has sought to blame the current influx of "immigrants" financial woes of the city. All at the same time minimizing or ignoring their monetary contribution to the city. Spewing blame around diverts attention that warnings were ignored with no adjustments to a political agenda. By perpetuating the seeds of hostility that allows the continuing shifting of the blame thereby avoiding the acceptance of any responsibility.

Call me crazy, I mean I really do have brain damage. It is sometimes difficult to understand me when I talk the talk and walking the walk is not always easy for me, Just yesterday I fell coming out of city hall. Sure I scraped my forearm, was a little blood, but the real pain came from injuries no eyes can see.

MONEY TALKS

Guess it's time to go a fishing
From the school budget that's missing.

Thanks to the DESE we realized
It's actually the CITY they'll penalize.

Cause they still got to pay
But $800,000 in Ch. 70 won't be coming their way.

I doubt the MAYOR is too troubled,
After all her salary's almost doubled.

THE BEGINNING OF BANKRUPTCY

I just finished watching a replay of last week's LSC meeting for the first time. Wow, I really need to start attending those again. Who knows when they get put up on web?

Seems like the MAYOR picked a good time to be absent for a well timed absence. They were talking about NET SCHOOL SPENDING again. City CFO PETER CARON was there to deliver the grim news No longer am I going to apologize for not being a MATH person when I explain things. That doesn't mean I won't get it wrong it's just that there is a whole lot of MATH people in this CITY that consistently get it wrong and there salaries have at least six more figures than mine.

It's about to get real. They have been tossing all these numbers around about how much we under spend and are behind, $3.5 million here, $8 million depending on who's doing the spinning (Don't forget the Mayor and Lt. Gov. pencil whipped a $18 million bill down to $9 Million) but it has always been abstract. Well from my understanding in June $#@t is about to get REAL!

Our CH. 70 money for June is going to have $800,000 clawed back because of the CITY"s failure to make NSS. The way I understand it that doesn't mean that LPS is actually losing money. Therre budget is set and is short. The CITY is obligated.

What it does mean is the city was counting on that money as revenue and it ain't going to be coming in So there going to have to find that money elsewhere in the city budget. How's that rainy day fund looking? Thee weather is not going to be nice in the corner office.

Needless to say LSC member DONNA COPPOLA was hot and read MR.CARON the riot act. i guess she is getting tired of the continual parade of mistakes and the repeating of the same recycled excuse. She proposed instead of blindly taking whatever figures the CITY dribbles out that a group of people from the schools take a more involved and proactive approach in the crafting of the figures.

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHY THIS ISN'T FRONT PAGE NEWS AT THE ITEM?

FIELD OF DREAMS VERSUS DOWNTOWN DILEMMA

Funny on the same day that KIPP announced a potentially controversial building project  and expansion, a year earlier the first and I think only athletic competition between KIPP (a charter school)and LPS occurred at FRASER FIELD for a scrimmage game (Honestly I can't say with ABSOLUTE certainty, TRIPPY doesn't play BASKETBALL).

FULLY COOKED, BOTH GOOSE AND BOOKS

With all the dollars the new Kipp drain
How will the CITY maintain?

LPS will face a bloodbath.
Perhaps another call for a Prop 2 1/2?

Guess someone found some land to build.
Looks like troubled fate is sealed.

Good thing we still have all that cemetery land,
Cause we'll need a place to bury that master plan,

PICKERING TO BE PUT DOWN

Image result for pickering middle school lynn ma

Due to the documented presence of LEAD and ASBESTOS, not to mention recent air quality and temperature regulation issues it has been so ordered that all students be immediately evacuated for health and safety concerns.

Given the recent failure of your debt exclusion may we suggest transferring these students by bus temporarily to the school administration building at 100 and certain administration officials can have offices in the moldy basement.

In an effort to expand the tax base, the Mayor has also decided to join the LPS officials in the basement in order that her corner office at city hall may be rented out and turned into a VIP LOUNGE for the concerts at the LYNN AUDITORIUM.

This tragic news for the kids of LPS is in addition to my recent reporting of the CONDEMNING of COBBET..

This was fake news although I can assure there was NO Russian hacking of the WATCH!

NEW FINANCIAL CRISIS?

KIPP signs agreement for $20M high school

Like I have been saying the educational landscape is changing, I have never been a fan of charter schools BUT I have been screaming since they built that NICE facility in HIGH ROCK, "How do they do it so cheap?". LPS could learn a thing or two although it probably has more to do with the MSBA and DESE.

This expansion has got to affect the number of students that go to LPS in the future. Would there have been less than full classes in a new PICKERING? Full or not, your taxes would have been OVER CAPACITY.

Then there is the division of CH. 70 money, hmm.

REMEMBER, THE MONEY FOLLOWS THE STUDENT.
