PAC MEET & GREET
Tonight's SPECIAL ED PAC meeting was a rousing success. The crowd of over thirty parents got introduced to the officers of our PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE and some key LPS personnel in the SPECIAL ED department. This was perhaps the largest crowd in recent history or at least as big as anyone can remember.
We (did I mention I was TREASURER?) were grateful to be joined by NATASHA M & M, candidate for LYNN SCHOOL COMMITTEE for tonight's meeting. I would like to point out she was the only candidate to attend tonight's meeting. She hopes to be able to help parents better navigate the complex web of services that the SPECIAL ED DEPARTMENT provides.

OCT 09 Tootsie Roll Drive
The Knights of Columbus Valladolid Council #70 in Lynn will be holding the annual Tootsie Roll drive across Lynn next weekend. We will be collecting funds for charity outside churches, banks, restaurants, post offices, supermarkets and other busy locations across the city. But what we need now is people to volunteer over the weekend. Even an hour would be helpful so if you have any time over the long weekend we would appreciate it. As most of us know, the funding process is very complex, but if you, Brian or someone else could give a brief explanation of how exactly LPS is "losing" money to KIPP, it may help your readers understand better. For example, if a student living in Lynn chooses to attend KIPP instead of LPS, do you consider this to be a loss of money for LPS even though the student is not attending LPS? Why or why not? Some other questions people may have are:
Are KIPP enrollment figures included in calculating Lynn's foundation budget and Chapter 70 aid?
How is Chapter 70 aid calculated?
Does Lynn receive Chapter 70 aid for students attending KIPP instead of LPS?
What percentage of Lynn's total costs does Chapter 70 aid pay for?
Who is responsible for paying the remaining costs and where does this money come from?
Are KIPP enrollment figures included in calculating Lynn's foundation budget and Chapter 70 aid?

What is REALLY lost is QUALITY CONTROL. If CHARTER SCHOOLS were really PUBLIC they would WELCOME oversight and be held to ALL the same STANDARDS as PUBLIC SCHOOL teachers.

Lynn Youth Council 2015-2016
The Lynn Youth Council invites applications to become a Youth Councilor. New Councilors will begin their duties in January, 2016. The Youth Council consists of 18 members, selected from male and female applicants aged 12 – 19 in each of the city wards and at-large. Candidates who are able to make the Youth Council their top extracurricular priority are preferred.

GOALS:
- Empower youth as a positive voice in the community
- Seek input from youth regarding city issues and civic concerns
- Promote youth participation in problem-solving and policymaking
- Enlist youth support for city initiatives
- Provide youth with direct experience of governance processes
- Raise the image of youth in the city of Lynn
ELIGIBILITY:
- Residence in Lynn
- Age 12–19, in Middle School, High School or GED program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet weekly on Thursdays from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Meetings will be about 1 hour long and located at the LYNN YMCA.
- Join at least one Youth Council sub-committee and meet at agreed upon times.
- Attend a minimum of 2 school committee meetings and 2 City Council meetings each year.
- If available, participate in summer civic engagement project.
- Participate in training, orientation and other activities.
- Conduct research, discuss issues and represent peers.
- Meet with and make recommendations to the City Council and School Committee.
Serve for a one or two year term as determined appropriate by the advisors and selection committee.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Completed application forms are due no later than December 17th, and must include a letter of recommendation from an adult, such as a teacher, coach or principal.
- Only complete applications will be considered.
- The written portion of the application will be judged anonymously and candidates will be selected to interview with the selection committee.

This letter entitles you to a free 3 month high school membership at the Lynn YMCA located at 20 Neptune Blvd., Lynn, MA. It is our goal to help all high school students incorporate healthy exercise habits into their lifestyle. This letter may only be used one time throughout your 4 years of High School, after that, students may continue coming by purchasing a high school membership – payment options are available. PLAYING ON (video)
This is my third football season and I can't ever remember the LYNN PUBLIC SCHOOL BAND showing up at a TECH game until today that is. Back in WV where I grew up every high school had a marching band complete with flag carriers and sometimes majorettes and girls with plastic rifles. ENGLISH alone is bigger than my high school and college put together. Did I say I went to one of the biggest high schools around.
Seeing them perform today brought back a lot of pleasant memories for me but more importantly I think it energized the LVTI team and helped spur them to a dominating performance.
