NO THANKS NEEDED (YOU WERE GOING TO DROP ME A LINE, WEREN'T YOU?)
I was watching the superintendent's report that one of her GOALS was the development of student newpapers at the elementary level. Uh um, I think I started doing that at FORD SCHOOL about four years ago or so. They even called their paper THE GOLDEN FALCON.
Unfortunately I had to move on after that first year but I believe there have been a couple of transmutations since then, A few other schools have made goes at it since but I THINK we were the first. No matter, the important thing is DR. LATHAM agrees with me on the value of the exercise in writing.
I'LL GET HER RECITING MY POETRY YET!

NEW BASKETS FOR GIRLS IN THE SPRING
When my kids were little they used to run around the house holding up brooms and scream they were playing "cross". To tell you the truth, I know nothing about the game but that has never stopped me from talking before. So get ready for some Lacrosse News from the WATCH!
Starting this spring some eigth grade and high school girls will be meeting at MAGNOLIA PARK to do some skills work, scrimmage game intramurally and whatever they do to get a new program started. There are certain steps you got to follow to adhere to the MIAA guideline. With the necessary hard work they hope to be playing varsity games in two or three years.
There was a healthy concern that there was no FEEDER programs at the MIDDLE SCHOOL level. Similar to what is done in other sports where a coach or organization sponsors some kind of player development class will happen here. Hope so, kids sports are a crucial part of total student growth.

12 YEARS UNTIL SLAVERY?
There was some talk THUR night at the LSC about adding a third FOREIGN language at LPS to go along with the traditional ones SPANISH and FRENCH (It ias srill FRENCH isn't it). DR. LATHAM said maybe CHINESE (That language would bemefit those working in retail.)
This realization for the need to do this comes from the fact that we are becoming a global economy. The world has changed and we need to reflect that or be prepared to be marginalized.
No timetable was set for these enactments but it needs to be sooner than later.Ignorance results in slavery.

So it begins....boy has it begun. I walk into my office this morning and I get badgered about this story yesterday. I had to say sorry, I hadn't read it. I did have to run home for some guilty pleasures So I read about it on-line......
Funny, nobody said nothing at last night's LSC meetin last night, seems like the facts of the matter are getting tied up in a traffic jam of information. You see there was talk about some proprietary votes on spending. I am not sure what all that means, you see they don't put that stuff on-line for me......
BUT......
I will tell you they were acting a little nervous. They were assured that this vote was only a formality that the MSBA was now demanding. The budget is the budget and after all it is already passed and approved. Yeah, this was only a one time thing....uh.....

DONNA DOES RIGHT
To insure that the personnel screening committee for new hires be more diverse the letter of the law was spelled out and put into policy. Parents should have more input on choosing a principal. MARIA was hot and bothered about past comments that certain principles said about certain populations and wanted to make sure our student populations positions were properly presented.
In the end, there was widespread agreement even if certain members didn't realize what they were voting for. The way I see it, this policy reigned in a little of the SUPERINTENDENT'S power in picking principals.
The arguement was skillfully presented in such a way that what some may have thought was mending fences was really fencing in.

WILL THE SUN COME OUT TOMORROW?

YOU DIDN'T SAY - REALLY YOU DIDN'T
I tuned into the LSC meeting tonight fully expecting them to announce that my son, TRIPPY was elected Freshman class co-president at LVTI this week. Especially when I saw MS. PARADIS in the crowd......
BUT......
noooooooo. Not a word. Well okay, that's on you. He keeps talking how he wants the Class of 2017 to be great. All he talks about is raising money for the class treasury. You people think I am annoying. I DO NOT HAVE HIS ENERGY. Being me is tiring. He doesn't have that problem. He will shake you down and will be making the TIGERS purr.

MY HIPS DON'T LIE BUT THEY MIGHT BREAK
Boy it seems like forever since I've been to a school committee meeting. I know they miss me but hry this is not good weather for me to go out in. Not only have my catarcts atarting to do a number on my vision, the cold temperatures make it harder for me to ambulate. (I know I could have said walk but I thought if I used a big word you might fforget I was from WV and think I was smarter than I am).
So I am going to use some of the modern technology I've been preaching about. I can WALK THIS WALK without stumbling like I did almost falling down the stairs at the HUMAN RIGHTS OPEN HOUSE..
SO YOU SEE, I GOT MY REASONS.

MUSTANGS TAKE ON TIGERS FOR A TOUR
Thurgood Marshall Middle School - Lynn, MA added 2 new photos to the album LVTI Tour.
Our 8th graders headed over to Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute (Lynn Tech) to get a tour of the complex and to see the choices that are available to them, if they opt for this path to high school graduation.

INNOVATION IN IN-BOXING
I woke up this morning, checked my FACEBOOK, and look what I found.
Seems like a few people besides me are interested in some creative solution to our education. I will let you know more as the information becomes available..
some of us began a petition to initiate a public hearing on innovation schools. to get a survey on which teachers are interested.

FORD ON FIRE, LEGACY RE-KINDLE-D
Thanks to a fundraising project by a friend of FORD SCHOOL from MARBLEHEAD HIGH last year, several KINDLES were purchased for the elementary schools use. Once again I'll let someone else fill in the real details because sometimes the facts take too much work. I've always found it easier when you can make up your own truth.

RAMS RECOGNIZED

"Hali Bah, Alexia Aguila, Eseosa Asiruwa, Heidi Mendez and Vanessa Rodriguez-Jimenez each received an early Christmas present when they found out in late December they were named Posse Scholars by the Posse Foundation in Boston.
The foundation recruits and trains high school students “with extraordinary academic and leadership potential to become Posse Scholars.” Thirteen hundred applicants were whittled down through three rounds of interviews to 60 and those Posse Scholars will receive four-years worth of tuition and fees to one of the six schools affiliated with the foundation."

TREATED TO TECH TOUR
By the end of Monday, all of the EOGHTH GRADERS of LPS should have had the opportunity to tour LVTI and observe its TOP-NOTCH programs. Wed. night parents will have the chance to vovot it in an OPEN HOUSE from 6 - 8. I highly recommend it.
Don't think I am saying nice things just because my son goes there. Okay, maybe I am.......
BUT.....
he is running for class co-president and well, this family has already had one loser in me and.....
I thought it might be nice to buck tradition.

EDUCATIONAL POETRY FROM MY BLOG - POET-AT-LARGE
LET'S BE ADULT ABOUT IT!
About the lack of parent involvement they complain
yet there is one fact they fail to explain.
That is how in the evening, closed school buildings remain.
Reconciling this this faulty logic, drives me insane!

MANUFACTURED CRISIS
How can we have a space problem with so many LPS buildings closed at night? Seems to me that this is not a statististical problem but is a logistical one.

OPEN CLOSURE?
First let me wish a "Happy Retirement!" to EUNICE ALDRIDGE of the ELL Department (maybe it's ESL, I don't know for sure, you see I got this stuttering problem - that's why I use so much Alliteration). She has worked hard and was big in the IMAGINE LEARNING expansion at LPS. You know the one that LPPS has two of the TOP 50 schools in the nation. That would be FORD and INGALLS.
Now that shr is retired that would leave open a VITAL positiom OPEN. Of course they may have alreafy have soneone in mind.......After all this is importamt position is key to MCAS improvement and with our MAJORITY of MINIORITIES. Then there is that DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE order thing at the state level.
Do tell, remember RETELL.

You know, I've just got to point out the obvious there seems to be no actual record of this meeing. Now maybe there is no video recording device available but how long do we have to wait to see the minutes put up?
UNHEEDED WARNINGS
Look now, there is cause for concern
because of budget shortfalls we now learn.
It's not like me to sound an alarm
but 92 million dollars in BOND debt may do us some harm.
For a new school the state has promised to pay
yet how confident are you of no delay?
Property owners may soon get a thrill
soon showing up in their property tax bill.

BUDGETARY CRISIS TO BE AVOIDED
In order to close exprected budget shortfall due to cost overruns on the upcoming MARSHALL project, soe bold new spending curtailments are being put in place. The ROSE GAREN in LYNN WOODS will provide the perfect backdrop for this spring's ceremonies.
An exhaustive departmental audit will determine which ASSISTANT DIRECTORS of CURRICULUM are absolutely essential to the continued academic growth of the students. Each departments MCAS advancement will be measured and a new administrator will be eliminated each week until the fiscal crisis is eliminated.
It was felt that these cuts could be made with the least amount of trauma since we went for a couple theree years without a SCIENCE DIRECTOR and MCAS scores actually went up.
In order to provide an additional revenue source, these ceremonies will be streamed live to selected venues across the city. LSC committeee member RICK STARBARD has been tasked with arranging tailgating parties around these broadcasts. Legal beverages will be available at a cash bar. All proceeds to go for the construction of the WOTRING WING,
DID YOU REALLY THINK I'D GIVE UP THAT EASY?

WHEN TROJANS BECOME SEMINOLES
The holidays aren't quite over for me yet. It turns out that a kid who was a couple years behind me in school jusy happens to be the coach at FLORIDA STATE, who just happens to be playing in the NATIONAL TITLE football game. Currently they are ranked #1.
Guess you northerners with your fancy schools don't have a corner on everything. By the wy, we went to a 1 - 9 school with a JR HIGH.

FUNNY, THIS DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A FUTURE BULLDOG
Once again MARSHALL provides an excellant example of the positive uses of the INTERNET. Yeah, it's silly but some people need to LEARN TO LAUGH!
Yikes! A few districts around us have cancelled school for tomorrow due to the snowstorm that is coming in. Not Lynn yet. We still have school so far! Check in here and we will let you know if it is cancelled. Meanwhile, prepare for the snow!
WEATHERING THE STORM
Since LYNN PUBLIC SCHOOLS will be closed for the next couple of days I thought this would give me the PERFECT opportunity to shut down my blog for a few days.......
BUT....
then I remembered the SNOW doesn't stop the Internet.
Actually this extended vacation may actually give those FIRST IN MATHers a leg up on the competition. So don't worry ENGLISH, one of your feeder schools, MARSHALL is probably going to be feasting on some math problems despite some racially charged comments giving many of us INDIGESTION!
BON APETIT!
