ENGLISH , MEXICO AND WALL WORRIES
Looks like LYNN ENGLISH'S MCJROTC will be taking a trip to the MEXICO ACADEMY 2016 DRILL COMPETITION before the presidential election, October 28-29, so they don't have be concerned about any possible presidential construction.
In fact they won't even have to declare to CUSTOMS any hardware they bring back as souvenirs from their working vacation since there is little BORDER SECURITY where they will be crossing. Some would say that this threat crosses the line and I would agree. You see it crosses the state line between MA and NY.

FRIDAY NIGHT FLASHING LIGHTS
Because we recently learned the hard way at a recent football game (I think it was a Classical game) that it is a good idea to have an ambulance standing by thanks to ATLANTIC AMBULANCE SERVICES an SECRETARY OF THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE, TOM IARIBINNO (he did ask) instead of having to wait 45 minutes or so (I believe that is how long they had to wait for one to come) in the future ATLANTIC has graciously donated standby services.

NEW SCHOOL BLUES
The protest has been quite shrill
Emanating from Pine Hill
About building a school near the reservoir
Rather than in a park not far.
On a change of decision they did bet
Because of a lawsuit they did threat.
To those citizens politicians did throw shade
Cause who really wants their taxes raised.

AS THE MEETING GOES
The agenda for the next LSC meeting is here.
October 13, 2016 | 6:15 PM
If it's not on the agenda 48 hours before the meeting, they WON'T talk about it. That's the law. So pay attention disgruntled voters.

ULTIMATELY, IT'S NOT THE WHERE BUT THE HOW (MUCH) THAT IS THE PROBLEM
MAYOR STANDS GROUND ON SCHOOL SITES
In the end it is not where they put the school but this that will ultimately kill the project"
If approved by the MSBA and taxpayers, it would add $163 annually to the real estate tax bill for 25 years.
While that statement is not exactly factually true because the voters would have to approve whatever financing package first. The MSBA does not have the authority to levy taxes.
The fact of the matter is if you want new schools be prepared to pay. The numbers they've been crunching makes this particular site the cheapest if you trust the math. Me, I'm a poetry guy.

STUCK IN THE MIDDLE (SCHOOL THAT IS) WITH YOU
The members of the PICKERING BUILDING COMMITTEE voted to proceed as planned with the site selection process despite very real threats of litigation. They have kinded budgeted in if you will about a two year delay to overcome any judicial gymnastics. There is a pretty well organized resistance to the reservoir site but since they now believe they can proceed with construction on the McMannus field site while it plays out in court that is a fight they are now willing to fight. Especially since the Magnolia site the other side seems to be pushing is likely to have an equally long delay due to political problems and the expense of moving a couple of MWRA water lines.
DIANE CHAKOUTIS fought passionately against proceeding with the already approved plan. In the end, she was the only one voting against it. In what was what I considered to be a WHIMP-OUT, DR. LATHAM ABSTAINED. You know, whether you agree with her or not, she gets paid pretty well to have an opinion on what's in the best interest in the education of our kids. All I can say is that I hope that fence is pretty sturdy that she is straddling.
Not to worry people against the site. Even if you lose in court, there are several more hurdles before any construction anywhere. The biggest worry is how they're goning to pay for it. I thought I heard cost estimates of $180 MILLION or so resulting in an increase of $160 in property taxes to support a bond covering our costs (minus the MSBA conribution). They tried to pass off the idea that we would only have to bond out our portion but we know that to be FALSE since we had to bond the total MARSHALL cost up front and MSBA reimbursed us for ALLOWABLE expenses as we went along.
Staytuned for more BUZZWORTHY drama!

TIGERS COME ROARING HOME
Tonight was LVTI's Homecoming and what a celebration it was. The final score makes it seem closer than it was. LEXINGTON only scored on the final play of the game despite probably winning time of possession.
When TECH had the ball, it seemed like they scored on the first play from scrimmage most of the time they had the ball. Of course I think they ran back a punt and a kickoff too. I do believe they had two other touchdowns called back for penalties or it would have been more lopsided. STEFAN GRAVELY had six touchdowns on the night for an outstanding performance.
The ycing on the cake was when a member of the football team, Mikayla, was voted Homecoming Queen! My daughter ASIAH was a cheerleader with her years ago in Pop Warner for the East Lynn Bulldogs. Small world.
PS - I was so busy texting ASIAH, I didn't notice TRIPPY escorted her on the field at halftime, lol.

SCIENCE SOLILOQUY
Gone from the name of the WASHINGTON SCHOOL
Is the key word STEM
Makes you wonder who they're trying to fool.
Brings to my face such a grin.
How they use the paper as such a PR tool.
To turn every loss into a win.
Now I don't always complain as a rule
But here they go, twisting the truth again.

SPIN CITY
LYNN SCHOOLS PUT TO THE TEST
There have definitely been improvements overall and that is a good thing. The key word there is overall.
In science, which is only offered with MCAS, Lynn had a CPI of 72.3, a 2.4 improvement over last year. The city scored 6.5 points lower than the state, improving over its 9.5 gap in 2015. The city’s scores are up in the subject, despite a decline in state results from last year.
As LSC member DONNA COPPOLA pointed out there was some troubling results particularly in the elementerary science subgroups. These could unfortunately be a predictor of future scores. I don't think her concerns were rebutted or was there much of an attempt.
Look at the breakdown for the TRACY SCHOOL for SCIENCE in the 5th grade.
"Warnings" have more than doubled and "Proficient" scores are only 73% of what they were last year. It just so happens that these drops coincide with the ABANDOMENT with the successful KNOW ATOM program and the EXPANSION of the administrative payroll. Coincidence?

KEEPING THE CAP ON
A judge has thrown out a lawsuit that questioned the constitutionality of the state’s charter school cap, leaving limits in place at least until voters have their say on Question 2 next month. The class-action lawsuit filed last September on behalf of five Boston students said they were denied…

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by this ruling. Honestly I thought the sheer fact they were considered legal in the first place would prohibit the state from putting some artificial cap on their proliferation.
Boy I'm glad I was wrong again. Probably though the judge just figured sith the big vote coming up she wasn't going to take the issue out of the people'd hands. Anyway, I'll take my victory's by losing anyway I can. Now on to the elections.

It's hard to believe this was suddenly discovered when I believe they were given warning about it at the first public meeting back in the spring. This will end up being a MAJOR delay I'm guessing cause surely there will be another public meeting allowing for comment of any new site......
UNLESS......
this is all part of some elaborate scheme to shove a particular site down the citizens throat.
Plus while there is no doubt we are growing, the fact that we had only around 60% of the increase in new students that they had been screaming about when all the numbers came in (ie. - not the 500 they'd been selling) does raise legitimite doubts about their truthfulness.
