MSBA Board Votes to Move Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Lynn into Schematic Design Phase

The Schematic Design phase will look at possible options for the replacement of the school with a new facility on the site of the current school building.

I don't know why they would have written that. The schematic design offered was the Brookline site following the unanimous votes of the School Committee and the Council following public presentations and comments which eliminated the Porter St. and Adams St. Extension sites which, if I remember correctly took place in the latter part of 2012. These votes are what precipitated the eminent domain taking.

CORRUPTION WITH CLASS

Another thing to keep in mind is that the taking of the Brookline site solved a difficult political and legal problem for the City. The owners of the property were proposing to build a significant apartment complex on the prop
erty. Although they claimed it would be occupied by higher end, market rate renters, both City officials and neighbors were skeptical and concerned that the site would end up servicing a lower income, section 8 population, which would negatively affect the neighborhood. In addition, there were legal concerns that the City might not be able to prevent the proposed project from going forward. The takings eliminated these problems by providing a property use that was politically more acceptable to City officials and neighbors.

I don't know about you but that doesn't sound to me like EDUCATION was the highest priority on the list.

I may get in trouble for putting this out there but hey, I got NO money to lose, my e mails are already BLOCKED from LPS and JAIL would actually solve some of my housing problems.

The same city councilman who voted to override the MAYOR'S veto on the new foreclosure ordinance voted to potentially prevent AFFORDABLE housing.

So it's coming to light now that the NEW MARSHALL location may have been more about preventing the POSSIBILITY that SECTION 8 people might move to the BROOKLINE site than what was best for educationally for the kids.

HMM....

maybe that guy at the first MARSHALL hearing was right when he called this a BAG job. It looks like we are going to be left holding it.

Let me tell you this is going to get NASTY. There will be lawyers in here from across the country trying to get a piece of this lawsuit.

Plus I like how they are hiding the ACTUAL cost of the MARSHALL PLAN by tearing down the building in 2016. I bet we have to take out a bond for disposal costs.

• As suspected by some of us, it appears as though the Marshall Project will cost the taxpayers something after all (even IF their tax bills do not increase) According to Acting Chief Financial Officer Peter Caron, "borrowing associated with paying for Marshall costs not reimbursed by the state doesn’t translate into an increase in their tax bill. THE PROMISE OF A CAMPAIGN

If I had a pledge to sign, I would sign it. I hereby declare forthwith to not accept any political contributions from anyone. That way I can maintain my OBJECTIVITY. I don't want to owe nobody nothing.

My campaign will be finance from the political capital generated from my ideas. Ink flows through my veins and my veins run deep. If you don't believe me then GOOGLE me. You'll see what I am talking about. My opinions and positions are clearly (if you don't count the typos) and often stated.

Honestly, not just because I am poor and don't have a treasury secretary, I mean, I think a lot of bird cages are lined with political propaganda. They estimate a campaign will cost $5000 when I pulled papers. Well I surely don't have it and I am not about to ask for it. That is because it is indicative of a much larger problem in our political process. Money have replaced ideas about the same time corporations became people.

I was able to cause by  all accounts (mostly mine but no one has said anything different) the first public hearing for the school committee generated by a petition in the HISTORY of Lynn. All of this cost ZERO dollars. Less than a year later, I was part of a second petition generated public hearing that was again spawned not by money but from ideas.

THAT'S HOW THE POLITICAL PROCESS IS SUPPOSED TO WORK!

Call me ROMANTIC (go ahead, I'm on my fourth wife) but I don't want other peoples money corrupting what I believe.

 So DR. LATHAM sent a letter to the LYNN CITY COUNCIL requesting that the BOND for building MARSHALL be placed on the ballot for SEPT 17 (Hey that's the same ballot I'm on). It came with the TYPICAL gloom and doom forecast if the iniative fails.

Even though the letter hyped the 80% match we are getting. I think the word ALLOWABLE should have been in bold print. You see by the time you take out what they won;t pay for with our money ( I believe MSBA'S building fund money comes from a %age of the sales tax we all pay, except for these tax free weekends when nobody pays), we end up with closer to a 60% match. I mean that's better than the citizens of LYNN having to pay 100% but  let's be honest about it.

She may be SMARTER than all of us but she doesn't have to rub it in by tricking us into doing what she wants.

RECIPE FOR DISASTER

Someone who is better at Math than me and that could be almost anyone, please help me out here. I DO NOT understand how taxes will not go up if we pass the BOND or down if we don't. Half of that I believe. I don't see taxes going down under any circumstances.

I know I never went to no MSBA traing and all but unless the tooth fairy is going to deposit the interest payments under the MAYOR'S pillow who is going to pay? I know wwe are retiring some debt soon and we'll have the money we used to pat to work with. We wouldn't dare think of returning that money to the taxpayers, after all they raised those taxes fair and square. They feel entitled to that money/

All kidding aside, we are going to pay anyhow. If we don't gey a NEW school we are going to pay for it in the end with devalued educational dollars. That being said, the taxpayers deserve to face the TRUTH head on without being subjected to a bag of accounting tricks.

MARSHALL'S PRICE KEEPS RISING

I tried to be nice, I really did. After all I'm a peace loving guy. Seriously, it was a very FAIR offer. All they had to do was name a small portion of the NEW MARSHALL after me and I would look the other way if in I did see any shenanigans. Yeah I was demanding  a WOTRING WING but honestly I would have negotiated down to a READING ROOM or even a BROOM CLOSET. I mean isn't how this political stuff works? Forgive me I'm new to the game and I'm from a distant land.

 Dr. Latham and her deputies also stated tonite that materials, such as report cards and IEP's are "always translated to the native language spoken at home" Well here is a 2012 report from the DESE that clearly states otherwise. Thanks to the marvels of modern technology MELISSA was able to convey ny concerns about the trustwothiness of their truths; Watching the hearing online I got to see her express what she was sure was their heartfelt anguish over my absence.

You see I wondered how we can trust these numbers when on one hand they insist we were never cited for pack of translation services yet we got these new hoops we have to jump through/ I womder if it was sonething like a continuance without a finding where they just got to agree with the presentation of the fscts yet get to escape a GUILTY verdict.

It is good you plan to partner with the council. They should be concerned with what goes on in the schools but.....they kind of keep their distance because of political correctness, not stepping on anyone's toes. For this partnership to work, 1). they either have to start attending the LSC meetings (I'll save them a seat) or appoint some liasion to keep them apprised of what is actually happening. Otherwise you get some vague letter of support like the one read at the FIRST public hearing that demonstrated their ignorance about the situation.

I believe you are WRONG in your assessment of how the FORD programs are paid for.
Sorry BFF, your idea to eliminate a teaching position to fund an afterschool program is CRAZY! Yes, you have a worthy goal but I think you are going about it the wrong way. Cutting ANY direct services to kids is ludicrous. Let's get our savings from making people do their job and pare down a top heavy administration,

MELISSA and I have went round and round on this KIPP thing. She knows I got nutin against CHARTER SCHOOLS (well almost nothing) philosophically but I thinking who gets paid is kind of shady. Apparently, it's not a problem for MELISSA. Here is where I insert the KOOL-AID joke but MELISSA she be a younin and don't get all the nuances of my humor.

I see and agree with MELISSA is going on the voting bloc thing. Contraversial things are usually always 4 - 3. However I HOPE I don't come across as being so ANTI as her. Of course a lot of people eould say that is just wishful thing. You know, I HAVE A DREAM YOU'RE HAVING A NIGHTMARE.

UNSPINNING THE NEW MARSHALL SPIN

I was reading in today's Item that the MAYOR favors borrowing the ENTIRE cost for the new Marhall now to take advantage of our current BOND rating. Hmmm......this is a different one pitched by everyone at all the school committee meetings.

In fact it is different from the one given to me by Rich Fortucci, whatevr position he holds in city government, told me at the last Marshall building meeting when I pressed him for a DIRECT answer on the extent of our indebtness for the project. I just wanted to know EXACTLY how much we were have to borrow, the 34 million that is our 20% (that is really 40%) or the whole 87 million. He grudgingly (my opinion) insisted the lower amount.

I was also told that CFO Caron (Fortucci's replacement) sent an e mail insisting the extent of our indebtness would be the lower amount. My source would have shared the e mail with me but there were conflicting confidentiality disclaimers.

DON'T YOU THINK WE OUGHT HAVE A LITTLE AGREEMENT BEFORE WE VOTE ON TAKING ON THE DEBT!

Again I ask you,"Who you gonna believe, a LIAR like me OR a politican who has TWO truths?"

A LAUNDROMAT AT THE NEW MARSHALL?

Always looking for new sources of revenue tokeep the burden off the taxpayer, I am proposing we line the gymnasium with coin-operated washing machines to clean the LPS dirty laundry. It's a natural fit because there already a loy of SPINNING going on. How else can you explain the new twenty percent being closer to FORTY?

Just a quick note about something for you to chew on for a while. The same group of people who are telling you this BOND vote will mean NO increase in taxes are the same group of people who told you that we are only going to have to pay 20% that is actually close to 40% and the $17 million has turned into a $34 million one.
