NEW WAY TO DEFINE UNANIMOUS - JUDY, PRO-CHARTER SCHOOL?
Joining many school districts across the state LSC stated their opposition as a body to "lifting the cap" on charter schools due to the diversion of "public funds". In all the meetings the MAYOR has been mum on her opposition. Her support was always "assumed" I assume. Her apparent refusal to sign off on this letter is proof of the old adage, " When you assume, you make an ...." Well you know the rest.
To be fair, she has been equally noncommittal about her support for charter schools cause publicaly doing so would cost her votes.

Don't you just HATE confidential stuff? I am not up to what is covered with the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT and all but it always does make me a little NERVOUS with all this secret dealing and all. I am grateful though at least we are starting to get some traction!

LAWYER IN LOVE
Everyone knows or should know I am NOT for charter schools. However, I do also realize there are some of you out who have the mistaken conclusion I can be occasionally wrong. Foolish peeps. Well because I'm all about the cliques, I am going to re-post this hear to satisfy the illusion of objectivity. Plus it has the added benefit of pissing certain people off.

At last Thursday’s Finance subcommittee and meeting of the
Whole Mayor Kennedy promised to send you a letter with details of the Net
School Spending agreement the next day. Myself, my readers, and some of your
constituents have long been waiting for specifics of this agreement. So far
none of my many letters on this subject have been answered by anyone.
The reduction of the $17 million dollar debt was substantial
and significant. The public is owed an explanation outlining the logic of the
negotiations and details of the seemingly secret deal.
I anxiously await your response, hopefully revealing the
requested information. As always I am cc’ing all parties concerned.

Taking the NASA banner away was a legit crime

This year's NON-SALARY budget, The Proposed FY'17 School Budget Is Available Here, has around an $800,000 cut.
DEMAND MORE #bringbackchuck
We've seen it before. Back when LPS was going to hire another DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT to replace the RETIRING SUE ROWE. Many of the same forces arguing against tacking a doctoral requirement on to that job position have aligned against attaching it to the ADMINISTRATOR OF SPECIAL ED.
Same arguments, same rumors swirl around this position. That time we were able to defeat the power play with the unlikeliest allies - CHUCK. He provided the swing vote to thwart the wishes of DR. LATHAM and her COALITION OF CORRUPTION - JOHN FORD, PATTI CAPANO, AND THE MAYOR. This defeat most probably led to the selection of DR. TUTWEILER for that position. Everyone now seems happy with that choice.
In that epic battle over credentials, CHUCK argued more eloquently than me over the DUMBING DOWN of our educational expectations. He is a lawyer after all and I am just a poor, disabled poet. Sure there were rumors of political payback over lack of support for his higher political aspirations for higher office but when have you known me to put much stock in rumors?
Whatever his true intentions we could use his stated commitment to the high level of education required of our top administrators. To that I say - "#bringbackchuck"

FERRARI FIRES WHILE NICHOLSON IS NICE
Sorry to see the NAVIGATORS lose but fun time was had by all. After seeing the strike tossed by retiring OFFICER FERRARI, LYNN POLICE'S LIAISON/SECURITY GUY for LPS during the ceremonial first pitch, I believe the NAVS could use him in their rotation.
With the franchise record breaking attendance even CHOMPS was limited in his moves and forced to sit most of the evening.
I am sure there were several dignitaries there but only one, LSC member JARED NICHOLSON

To be honest I was more than a little disappointed when I found out our award winning JROTC was not there to PRESENT THE COLORS.

There's something funny going on and not the kind where the belly bounces. Why isn't the recording of the budget meeting posted yet? I mean I know some LVTI TV/MEDIA kids were there, I even asked them why they weren't at the prom. I was quickly enlightened to the fact they were sophomores.
Maybe it has been a technical issue and not due to the fact I have learned how to SNIP pictures from the recording. That has made watching it more interesting. I had plans to go back and SNIP out particular scenes but alas - video silence.

THE MIRACLE OF MENSA MATH - DOLLAR DAZE V
Now I know you have heard and will hear over and over again how JUDY is this staunch defender of the LPS budget and how the budget for the schools is the only dept. that is getting money added to it. Okay she did say last Thursday night there may be one other. In true POLITICS SPEAK I don't think it was identified.
Anyway, here's the actual number presented for this year's budget:

Now I gotta tell you us poets, we're not into MATH. I mean remember that's probably why I tell you all the time,
I AIN'T NO LAWYER!
No, us poets are lovers of BEAUTY. Now just what is BEAUTY you probably want to ask. Excuse me while I wax. No, I'm not getting a BRAZILIAN or removing chest hair. The waxing I'm talking about is of a philosophical nature.
BEAUTY in its most basic, elemental form is TRUTH and I mean true TRUTH. It is true that the overall budget did increase by about $700,000, the non-personnel portion actually decreased by around $800,000. Way to spin JUDY, I am impressed.
Even more disheartening is the fact by all accounts (I'm taking them at their word, after all they never lie, exactly) the number of kids served has increased (they're always bemoaning our growth) so that means our expenditure per student ratio has necessarily plummeted.
Say what you will about CHARTER SCHOOLS and I've said plenty but I would be willing to bet the math works in their favor on this issue. Just remember facts don't always equal truth. There I go boring you with my waxing again.
Anyway LPS, "brace yourself" the storm is coming!

NAVS HONOR RETIRING OFFICER WHO HANDLED SECURITY FOR LPS
The North Shore Navigators are proud to announce that they will honor First Responders and Veterans with tomorrow's ceremonial first pitches at Fraser Field.
Bob Ferrari, who is retiring this year after a tremendous career, will represent the Lynn Police.
Lieutenant Kevin Downey, who is in his 9th year as a firefighter, will represent the Lynn Fire Department.
Yari Dejesus, a member of the Lynn Housing Authority's Veterans Team which ended Veterans homelessness in Lynn, will be joined by an Iraq Veteran to throw out a first pitch.
We are honored to have these guests join us and we will see you at Fraser TOMORROW for Opening Day. First pitch is at 6 p.m. Pre-Game begins at 5:30.
EXPLAIN ER THE RETAINER - DOLLAR DAZE V
I learned at the LSC meeting last night that LPS has a person on PR retainer of $18,000 a year. That's no set hours and I am not sure if there has been a record of the work produced. Now this is in addition to the TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars they pay for the production of the LYNN EDUCATOR, you remember the magazine where they publish positive pieces about what's going on at LPS like this -
Although if it was your daughter he had his "hands-on" I'm not sure you would have such a favorable view of LPS. Good job, GRANT COMMUNICATIONS! I'm not quite sure why you choose to run that particular photo but I guess you thought it was GOOD EXPOSURE. You guys are the professionals.
Maybe you should have LPS pay you MORE so the ITEM can afford to pay for a reporter to cover the LSC meetings. They are so happy with my work they are doubling my salary so you definitely ought to get more, NOT!

The FINANCE SUBCOMMITTEE meeting last night was kind of a disappointment. Not much meet on the bone, just a lot of yapping about the good job KEVIN has done with the figures, real clear. I would hazard a guess that the MAYOR has been tutoring him in that MENSA MATH that they (by that I mean ME!) they have been talking about.
So imagine my surprise and pleasure when I checked the LPS website this morning and found this! I almost had a BOWEL MOVEMENT BLOWOUT!

This budget has not only not been approved, they haven't even set a date to do so. My memory might be a little suspect (KEY WORD) with my BRAIN DAMAGE and all but I don't recall it being posted before the LSC approved it and all, definitely not last year.
Once it was approved and posted then by law the public has thirty days to examine it before a PUBLIC HEARING.

I was glad to learn last night of your intention to disclose
details of this supposed “settlement” of the Net School Spending issue
regarding a “deal” you brokered with Lt. Gov. Polito and the DESE. In response
to a question posed by LSC member, Ms. Carrasco, you promised to send her an
email after today’s meeting with city CFO, Pete Caron. Without a doubt, I am
sure my readers would love some details on how you saved the city from
insolvency, all the while insured the mandated levels of educational spending
required by state law so I am formally requesting a copy of that email. You can
just cc me, you know put me on the email chain.
Perhaps at the same time you could explain to me under what
authority Lt. Gov. Polito has to negotiate on behalf of the DESE since I am
clearly not a smart lawyer like you. At the same time maybe you had better
explain it to them as a comment last night from one of my readers last night
indicates some confusion on their part.
The DESE posted the updated NSS compliance reports yesterday.
320 of 322 districts are reported and Lynn still is not one of them. My guess
is if a resolution was reached and finalized, those figures would be posted.
I am sure you’ll be as prompt with responding to me as you
always are. I look forward to being kept in the dark.

KEG PARTY?

WIZARDS OF WALL STREET
It is time once again for a group from ENGLISH HIGH SCHOOL to make their annual pilgrimage to WASHINGTON, DC for the CAPITOL HILL CHALLENGE COMPETITION on June 14-16. You see there is this nationwide FANTASY LEAGUE for student market players and the top ten teams (we finished #7) get a three day trip to DC, are paired with a local Senator, and get to do the town up.
It's kind of ironic that our team gets paired up with Sen. Warren, a WALL STREET oft-time opponent. With a 59% return record many on the committee were calling for detention to be served by these students in their respective portfolios.
