RIGHTEOUS READERS AT SEWELL-ANDERSON

SEWELL-ANDERSON READING FOR THE FUN OF IT

I SAW A SIGN

CAHILL FLYING SOLO IN SPECIAL RACE

When I saw those opposing campaign signs separated by only a street yesterday I thought it was a good picture. Apparently they were separated by more than a little asphalt. It looks also they were also about 40 necessary figures apart.

Being a veteran of one LOSING campaign that required I get 350 signatures and TWO public hearings also requiring 350 signatures, I have serious questions about MR. ZAPATA'S commitment to the cause. The biggest one of which would be, "Can we take the possibility of a successful write-in campaign seriously?

"Another one would be, "Did you waste money on those signs?".

I wonder if I'll still get the interview I was promised?

CAHILL AND ZAPATA BORDER WARS

Seeing both candidate's signs separated only by a street male's me homesick for the Hatfield's and McCoy's and reminds me of other such border  wars.

NOT IN MY OFFICE BUT CLOSE ENOUGH

WILL KIPP GET THEIR DUE?

In what has been a long standing tradition for as long as I can remember (Don't forget I DO have some serious brain damage) they been moving around that first school committee meeting in April so it could coincide with Student Government Day so the kids could get their mock on. The did it again this year too, changing the April 14th meeting to April 12.

The milk in my refrigerator may curdle for what I am about to write but here goes.

DON'T FORGET KIPP THIS YEAR.

You all know how I feel about CHARTERS but this is a different. I, I mean, we are not talking about some corporate charlatans duping the public into some educational ponzi scheme, no we are talking about young LYNN citizens who attend a legal (NOT that I think it is but so far some judges have) and state sanctioned. It's not even a PUBLIC/PRIVATE argument. ST. MARY'S, a private school participates so their goes that question. After all it's STUDENT GOVERMENT DAY and well KIPPSTERS, they are students.

I raised this same point last year. Former LSC member RICK STARBARD took up the fight, perhaps he arrived to this position on his own, no matter. He told me he pointed this out and got assurances from the MAYOR and powers that be that it would not happen again.

WE SHALL SEE!

IT SEEMS SOME OF THE LPS ADMINISTRATION WERE READING MY BLOG WHEN I WAS POINTING THEIR BEHAVIOR, I WONDER IF THEY'RE STILL READING?

CELEBRATING SUESS

How many other city councilors push the importance of reading on this national day of celebration? Seriously, it's a question. Let me know, I want to give them recognition too!

What a great morning reading to Mrs. Maggs 3rd grade class at the Sewell-Anderson Elementary School, "It's a Secret" was a big hit on Dr. Seuss' birthday celebration! Thank you for the opportunity!‪#‎americareadsday‬

SLIPPERY WHEN READ

Again I'm not one to start NO TROUBLE but seeing all the GORDON COLLEGE GHOULASH are these volunteers going to have to sign some kind of waiver? What if any one of them are TRUMP supporters and they want to build a WALL around the museum? I remind you that TRUMP did win the MA primary so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Volunteer Educators Needed!
In a new collaboration with the Lynn Public Schools, the Lynn Museum/LynnArts will welcome third grade classes from five Lynn elementary schools to the campus for a multi-visit experience. We are currently seeking ten volunteer educators to assist with this program. For more information please complete our volunteer form https://fs20.formsite.com/lynnmuseum/form5/index.html and our Education Specialist Nicole Breault will contact you directly with more information.

I'M NOT LOOKING TO START TROUBLE BUT HOW MUCH ARE THEIR JANITORS COSTING?

ALTERED STATE OF THE UNION

Yet another LSC meeting is being cancelled. Yeah, the one scheduled for March 10, 2016 is not gonna happen. Basically they cited an unmentioned longstanding tradition of cancelling the first meeting in March.

It was NOT specifically mentioned but I believe they were talking about the festivities surrounding St. Paddy's Day. Some people really like those drinking holidays. However due to a quirk of the calendar, the day of libations is not for a week. I realize you need a couple of days leading up to it to get into the spirit but a whole week, really?

In all fairness, given the precarious financial position the city is in I can see the need to drink to forget.

LOCKED IN FOR LOCKDOWNS

Now I have been in a battle or two before for voting at schools. I have even made the argument that it models good citizenship for kids. My biggest complaint was the almost blatant gerrymandering that went into choosing which schools got to serve as voting places.

Those old opinions and positions I had were several mass shootings ago. Currently I have a more reserved, cautious opinion. I know they usually try and schedule the general elections to coincide with teacher professional days so that school is not in session thereby avoiding any security concerns.

Today being a primary wasn't one of those days. Schools would be a very soft target for high value publicity. A couple of cops hanging around could be easily overpowered or distracted while someone else slips down the hall. The potential terror could easily become massive.

This is a different world we live in and maybe we should not allow voting to take place in schools anymore while class is in session.

LOOK AT A BUDGET LORI LOOKED AT

Was just doing a little research and came across this.  Just look at the detail in and information contained in this budget.  Compare this to the link to Lynn's budget.  And if I am not mistaken, salaries account for less than 70% of the total budget, not more than 80% like Lynn's (but I only quickly looked at figures, I may be wrong).  I wonder how many other districts have salaries that account for more than 80% like Lynn and if that is typical or not?

GO BLACK FOR THOSE WHO DON'T COME BACK

MAR

  • Mar 6 at 12 AM to Mar 7 at 12 AM
  • No Meeting Place. Do At Your Own Home
DO NOT RELEASE THE BALLOONS! PROPERLY DISPOSE OF THEM THE NEXT DAY. I speak for a lot of you I know as well as myself when I say I have lost many people in my life due to drug overdose. I am asking everyone I know to buy a Black Balloon on Sunday March 6, 2016 to raise awareness. We are living in an epidemic that every single person you walk by on the street knows someone who has died of a drug overdose. Eventually, I would like to raise such an awareness that March 6th becomes "National Black Balloon Day" marked on your calenders. This year it's only for awareness but in the future I'd like to have a donation also on this day to have Narcan Education for McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, etc. Employees. Potentially, if this happens a life could be saved. Before this happens I need everyone to join my family, friends and myself to purchase a black balloon at your local Party City, Dollar Tree, etc. Please hang the balloon outside of your house or business, take a picture of it or a selfie with your balloon, whatever you'd like and hashtag#BLACKBALLOONDAY so everyone can see how many have suffered or are still suffering from this drug epidemic that we currently live in. Let's make this lifestyle STOP. Please invite your friends to this Event!!!

COUNCILORS: MAYOR CALLS SHOTS ON CITY NEGOTIATIONS

The Mayor's bargaining position is going to be dictated by the real squeeze she feels by the potential devastating loss of $11 million in Chap. 70 reimbursement that I am not really sure the council understands the full impact it would cause. It would mean the city has to make up that loss. Can you say layoff?
