GONE, I AM

Having witnessed and even been a part of reading celebrations at FORD SCHOOL, it troubles me that there appears not to have been one centering around DR. SUESS'S birthday/READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY. I could be wrong, I haven't got out much lately, but I think not.

This is sad. I would bet the argument would be made that involves TIME-ON learning and getting SCORES up. There's nothing that says learning like READING.

THERE'S A WHOLE NEW EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT BEING ESTABLISHED.

BEGINNING BUDGET BABBLE

I can't wait to begin DOLLAR DAZE IV!
More questions than ever before.

Oh you'll PAY, that's for sure.
Just how much, decided behind a closed door.

The TRUTH you can't ignore,
Real answers, no need to bore.

A READ ON READING BY THE NUMBERS

e, the total number of kids who are proficient or advanced on the state tests is twice as high in terms of raw numbers. ... What I would love, if I was an authorizer, is the idea that you would measure state test results, but the denominator would be the number of kids you began with. Because that matters a lot. If a school has 75 kindergarten students and only 30 are still there in 4th grade, but they all pass the test, that’s only 30 out of 75 that the school has fulfilled its mission to. That shouldn’t be good enough and not enough people are paying attention to those numbers."

CHARTER CHATTER

Fess up to face up
Our financial house in disorder

We'll be spending less but costing more,
Taking chances is what the lottery's for.

Sure to choose if given a choice,
Only not all will be given a voice.

Numbers figure to add to the confusion
All done to perpetrate the illusion.

NOT SO TINY BUBBLES

Where will all the money come from?
We seem to get our answers from politicians playing dumb.

Charter schools will get more, that's the law.
For the majority, public education will fall.

Millions owed in School Spending Net
A 92 MILLION DOLLAR bond we may soon regret.

Half the school committee set to leave
The plight of our students, a cause to grieve.

SILENCE IS GOLDEN, GOOD FOR THE TAKING

Why aren't the recordings of the LSC meetings since JAN. 15, 2015 up on the web site,  http://lynnsc.lynnschools.org/tcs/#page:recordingList&pageNumber:1 ? That leaves only 1 meeting's recording available for this year.

The problem existed before all the record breaking SNOW. Who is responsible for this problem? Sure it's a little problem now but with all the financial problems about to devastate the schools, how am I or any other concerned citizen supposed to study the goings on that will impact everyone's future?

There is an election coming up where half the committee is leaving, WHAT DOES LPS HAVE TO HIDE?

POINTERS FROM A PROFITABLE PAC

For only the fourth time in the past two months I ventured outside. Four always seems to work for me but enough about my marriages, What I am really talking about is what an informational program I enjoyed at last night's PAC meeting. From what I've been told, it was also the most attended meeting in a while.

Although this PAC is aligned with the SPED department this presentation was perfect for ANY parent with a kid.The advice was applicable and appropriate to and for everyone. The presentation was entitled:

USING A POSITIVE, STRENGTH-BASED APPROACH FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING

Being a "Half Full" versus "Half Empty" person, his words fell on receptive ears. The jokes, metaphors and plays on words made the poet in me perk up. His name was CHARLIE APPLESTEIN, MSW. CALLAHAN SCHOOL is fortunate enough to have him as a regular consultant.

He has written a book several years ago entitled, "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD KID"" I highly recommend checking him out.

WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING TO COME FROM?

KIPP ACADEMY located at 90 High Rock St, Lynn, Ma 01902 is currently accepting lottery Application for the 2015-2016.KIPP-Lynn is now offering classes from Kindergarten to 12th grade. If you or someone you know that might be interested please stop by or call KIPP-Lynn for further info at 781-598-1609.

Of course, you know what this means.

ORCHESTRATION RESURRECTION

At the last LSC meeting I heard a disturbing diatribe, caustic comments coming from Cathe. According to her, the obituary for the overseer of the INTERNATIONAL GARDEN at the FORD SCHOOL, the HIGHLANDS COALITION has been written on the whispering winds.

However it is appropriate that incendiary idea floated like a LEAD balloon since the HIGHLANDS COALITION still has the LEAD PAINT removal deal with LYNN HOUSING and that kind of insures a littlle financial stability insuring that they/we will be around.

What happened was a coup of a coup and I am proud to say I fought on BOTH sides in BOTH battles. Actually, I only on one side and that was on the right one. You see I had been warning people for years that they needed to get their house in order and have a more professional approach in their fiscal dealings (Isn't that a HOOT, me talking PROFESSIONALISM?).

So in attempt to provide some direction, some social mercenaries seemed to be hijacking HICO and seemed to stray from what was supposed to be a CORRECTIVE action into a PUNITIVE direction. When myself and a few others refused to be led in that direction, some of the new/old social mercenaries said so long.

To me, LOYALTY is important and when you are sincere in what you believe in you stick around to see it through. Abandoning ship, only serves to shelf correctiions that look more like misdirections on reflection.

MAYBE SOME, IF NOT ALL, WILL BE DISPLEASED WITH ME FOR REVEALING TOO MUCH BUT THE SOUND OF MUSIC I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO HAS BEEN STRIKING A SOUR NOTE AND "THAT'S THE NAME OF THAT TUNE".

Arts After Hours (AAH) will present the comedic play Complete History of America (abridged) March 27 to April 4, 2015 at the Rantoul Black Box Theatre in LynnArts on 25 Exchange Street, Lynn, MA 01901. Tickets are $25 for premium seating and $20 for regular seating. For show times, ticket information, and directions please visit artsafterhours.com or call the box office at (781) 205-4010. The show’s content is considered PG.

The three actors in The Complete History of America (abridged) hilariously perform 600 years of history in just 90 minutes. This roller-coaster ride of a show tackles George Washington, Watergate, Baghdad, the New World, the discovery of America, and every topic in between using its own unique and hilariously quirky brand of humor. It answers the most complicated of questions that American History has presented us with, such as “Shouldn’t we call it Amerigo?” and “Why didn’t they also create a Bill of Wrongs?” Audience will be encouraged to participate in an important quiz about the great women of American history.

Arts After Hours’ presentation of Complete History of America (abridged) is directed by James Tallach, who has appeared in AAH’s productions as Mother Superior in Nunsense A-Men!, Jake in Evil Dead: The Musical, and Antonio in Much Ado About Nothing. “AAH’s dedication of bringing the arts to Lynn is extraordinary and I wanted to continue being part of it in a more creative way,” says Tallach. “When the chance to direct Complete History came along, I jumped at it and found three incredibly talented actors to tackle this smart funny and challenging piece.”

All AAH veterans, Cameron Gosselin (Twelfth Night), Casey Tucker (Henry V), and Dan Prior (Cannibal, the Musical) will stitch together American history like you’ve never seen it before. “That this caliber of people producing and performing at AAH are more than happy to come back time and time again says a lot, not only their dedication to the arts, but also to the quality work that AAH produces in Lynn,” Tallach adds.

“We are very excited about The Complete History of America (abridged),” says Thomas Martin, AAH’s Artistic Director. “Our audiences have come to expect an irreverent and wacky good time with our spring show. After last year's smash hit Avenue Q, we wanted to find something fast-paced, funny, and at times, educational.”
