I have grave concerns about the Mayor of Lynn's refusal to fund the schools at 100% OF net school spending as required by state law. In fact along with the city's CFO, she has even said the 95% mark is not assured, necessitating further penalties and reductions in Chap. 70 money therefore putting the public schools into a downward spiral. I am asking you to seek the aid of the ATTORNEY GENERAL to enforce compliance.

I look forward to your response. I need to inform you that I do have a blog, LYNN SCHOOL WATCH and I intend to share your response lack thereof with my readers.

Take this FACT for example. During the last MAYORAL election, JUDY'S campaign manager was the former President of the SALEM TEACHER'S UNION. Now according to public testimony given before the LYNN SCHOOL COMMITTEE, PETER CARON the city CFO stated that their may not be enough money in the city coffers to pay LYNN PUBLIC SCHOOL teachers the RETRO-PAY already agreed to in the bargaining of their contract.

City and school officials take full advantage of the population in Lynn. Lynn has a high non-white population, Lynn has a high uneducated (college) population and Lynn has a high low income population. All of these, in my opinion, are leading contributors to the lack of overall involvement from the residents of Lynn. Most of the stunts that our city and school officials pull and get away with would never happen in a more affluent community. In fact, most of our city and school officials would not last a day in these other communities!

I KEEP A KNOCKING BUT THEY WON'T LET ME IN

You know I have been writing a lot of letters lately and NOBODY writes me back. I am starting to get a COMPLEX.I mean there was the letter I first wrote to DAN CAHILL on the RECENT RAISES, asking for some RECONSIDERAION. He almost always writes me right back. Often we een carry on an email conersation the same day.Not this time.

I followed it up with a letter to all the individual council members a day later expressing my concern over the UNDERFUNDINGof our schools and the dire consequences. NOT A PEEP!

I've wrote REP. BOB FENNELL twice on LYNN'S plea for HOME RULE alongwith once to the other to Representatives in our delegation. MY INBOX IS EMPTY!

I am beginning to feel ignored just like I felt at the MAYOR'S STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS!

I just want to thank the INGALLS SCHOOL choir for a rousing rendition of THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER at last night's NAVIGATOR game. You made me proud and you truly represent. Joining them as they appear at every home game was the LYNN ENGLISH JROTC COLOR GUARD.

ABOUT THAT VOTE BOB?

Fact of the matter is, it is not uncommon for LYNN'S MAYOR to come from former or sitting state legislators. Kind of makes you wonder if the votes on the HOME RULE petition allowing for these exorbutant raises will be cast in the best public or PRIVATE interest, now doesn't it?

THOSE NAILS WHOSE HEAD LIL'LORI KEEPS HITTING GO TO LPS'S COFFIN

Lori D'Amico The city council never mentioned where the extra $62,500 per year and $11,000 per year for their and the Mayor's raise will be coming from (unless I missed something). During the public hearing, there was ZERO mention of there not being enough money in budget for these raises. However, just 2 days later, when it came to funding our schools, every other word was "no money" "not enough money" or "budget cuts". Here's what did happen at the school committee meeting: The Mayor made the superintendent cut her already deficient budget by $1.2 million. Peter Caron admitted as of today, we would be hit with yet another penalty (3rd year in a row) for not only under-funding our schools, but by not even hitting the 95% mark. Peter Caron stated the city would have to bond the $1.5 - $4 million Pace verdict and he had no idea where the money for the teachers raises would come from. Jaye Warry admitted our kids are using decade old history books and the current budget does not include any money for textbooks. And as has already been stated, our schools will not have librarians in the libraries (some, to my knowledge, don't even have libraries) Hey, who needs books anyway, right!!

MOVING RIGHT ALONG, WELL MAYBE NOT "RIGHT" ALONG

Call me crazy! (I am sure there are people standing in line to do that) Why if everyone believes so much in the EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER are they taking some SPED students out of INGALLS to move there instead of their KINDERGARTEN class? I believe they are supposed to stay put.

Drewicz 5 year olds are going to be bused across town. Hmmm. I do believe I did a story once about the DANGEROUS traffic at that school. Well I am sure it will be much better now that a NEW bus

I have lost so much in life. First it was physical stuff due to my accident, then a BRILLANT (Okay maybe I’m exaggerating a little) medical career, 3 wives (Thank God for the FOURTH!), and now thanks to the MAYOR’S budget belittling, she’s taking away one of the few joys I have left in life. I am talking about LASHING OUT AT LATHAM!

How can I talk about what a BAD job she is doing making choices about what to spend money on if she doesn’t have the minimum required amount to spend? Come on now, what fun is it for me if she is metaphorically wounded. it would be like kicking a puppy (granted it would be a LARGE puppy.

SORRY GUYS, I WANT TO KNOW, WAIT MAKE THAT"NEED" TO KNOW

Where is the ITEM on the precarious position the city, particularly the schools are in? Not that I am above making stuff up but this time I'm not HONEST! I mean at the STATE of the CITY address at the LYNN PUBLIC LIBRARY on MAY 30th everything was allRAINBOWS and CUPCAKES and then less than two weeks later at a school committee meeting we are on the brink of a financial armageddon. ROLL THE VIDEOTAPE!

We have not heard a peep from them about this. In their defense, maybe they are checking facts and I never let a pesky little thing like that get in the way of my reporting. I am sure they will deliver a flawless eulogy!

Dear Mayor Kennedy,

Most Honorable Mayor, I am asking you to please consider at least postponing temporarily the raises and compensation packages recently passed by the Lynn City Council due to the precarious financial position the city is in as indicated from the testimony given by CFO Peter Caron before the Lynn School Committee last Thursday night.

I tried to allude to these potential problems at your recent “State of the CITY” address on May 30^th at the Lynn Public Library. Admittedly my perception was in sharp contrast to the rosy picture you tried to portray then/ However judging by both yours and CFO Caron’s testimony on June 12 it would seem as if things have dramatically changed and your perception is now closer to mine.

Temporarily suspending your raise would be an opportunity for you to shiw true fiscal leadership and save the city from potential bankruptcy. As I am sure you would expect both this letter and your answer or lack of answer wi;; be published entirely on my blog, Lynn School Watch. Thank you for your time and attention.

SOMEONE DIAL 911, THERE'S A ROBBERY IN PROGRESS!

Dear Representatives,

I strongly urge you to not support the City of Lynn’s petition for Home Rule. Given the precarious state of the city’s financial state as reported by Peter Caron, city CFO, in testimony given before the Lynn School Committee on June 12, 2014, the timing is not just wrong but fiscally irresponsible.

No doubt you are all aware of the Net School Spending saga at Lynn Public Schools and it is my understanding that if the proposed legislative fix passes the waiver of any penalty is not automatic therefore such self-centered behavior could drastically the chances for a remedy. If I understand the figures correctly a vast majority of school districts have met their NSS requirements and therefore would be being in effect to subsidize Lynn’s greedy politicians.

If you are not aware I am the writer of the blog, Lynn School Watch, and I am sharing this letter and any response I receive with my readers. Thank you very much for your time and consideration on this matter.

THE COST OF FREE

Someone please help me. Just what is this mystical, magical FREE cash our MAYOR is hoping to use to patch together an underfunded LPS budget at 95% NET SCHOOL SPENDING requirement using spit, SCOTCH (coincidental choice of words?) tape and baling twine?

I am guessing it comes from the fact they charged you too much taxes and that is whats left over after salaries and such! And guess what it is still not enough to fund the schools at the required level? It is probably safe to assume that means HIGHER taxes in the future.

Have you looked in to PERSONAL loans to pay your taxes?

This will probably come as a bug surprise but I am going to say something nice about the EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER. Tonight at the NAVIGATOR game they gave a rousing rendition of the STAR SPANGLED BANNER,made extra special being on FLAG DAY.

Also at FRASER FIELD tonight was a contingency from MARSHALL school, special guests of the NAVS. I had he pleasure of shaking hands with DR. COWDELL, the principle who also happens to be an umpire, That probably explains firm handshake. His arms are all built up from calling people out!

HERE IS A LETTER I AM SENDING TO ALL CITY COUNCILMEN AND WOMEN

I respectfully ask you to reconsider the sweeping changes you voted on at the last council meeting. Given the testimony given by the city CFO, Peter Caron at the last school committee meeting about the city’s precarious financial position which necessitates that all city departments take a 2% decrease and Lynn Public Schools run the risk of not being funded at the 95% Net School Spending level incurring further losses to Chapter 70 reimbursement.

Such an irresponsible increase as the one recently passed will have drastic ramifications for the city of Lynn and will shine a spotlight on just where your priorities lie, I am sending copies of this letter to all the councilmen and will share any responses I get with my readers of my blog, Lynn School Watch. Thank you for your time and hopefully for your expected service o the students of Lynn.

People are not confused.
Residents from Lynn & Nahant appeared at a public hearing this past Tuesday in Lynn Council Chambers, to stand in opposition to the Home Rule petition of city officials' voting themselves significantly higher retro-raises and increased pensions, beyond Charter restrictions for the same term. Two days later, many watched as the School Committee battled the school budget with layoffs and cuts.

Hey teachers, how do you feel now about how they pushed you to push a BOND the city can't afford and if I heard correctly last night they don't know where the money is going to come from to pay you the RETRO PAY RAISE you were due from last contract. Given the dramatic testimony given at last night's school committee meeting by CFO Caron on the perilous financial state the City of Lynn is in, I can not stress strongly enough that there needs to be some reconsideration about the recently passed exorbitant raises. While I do realize the amounts are small in comparison to the amouns needed, the message it sends is disheartening.

At a time when we are struggling to underfund our schools, the raises represent an appearance of self centered corruption. It is myhope that you will bring before the council a more fiscally responsible proposal.

It is no secret about LATHAM'S dislike for DR. CRANE but this latest display of childish behavior deserves reprimand for the highest paid city employee, It is no wonder MORAL is so low.

At a time of budget cuts and belt tighting cold somebody please tell why all the KINDERGARTEN AIDE positions had to be re-posted for a correction of one word. The old and the new word even started with the same letter. Seems like an incredibly hilarious waste of time.

The Marshall Acting Club performed in front of an audience that included students, teachers and administrators this afternoon. It wasn't their typical performance, however. This time around Ms. Campbell had the students carry off a puppet show. It may sound easy, but it actually requires quite a bit of planning and choreography. All attending were entertained! Thank you to all of the performers!

Went to Fraser Field this morning to watch the NAVIGATORS win in front of oer two thousand fans. Most of them were FIFTH GRADERS from LPS. There were a couple of schools from PEABODY that joined in the 2nd annusl School Day at the park. Even DR. LATHAM was in attendance.

Everyone was treated to hear a FIFTH GRADE girl from DREWICZ sing the NATIONAL ANTHEM!

This time the HOME RUN was hit comin to the park.

I'M WRITING MY REP, HOW ABOUT YOU?

Dear Representative Fennel,

I want to both thank you for your recent efforts to help try and solve Lynn Public Schools chronic Net School Spending problems and to express my outrage at last night’s Lynn City Council exorbitant pay raises were passed at a time when the city is fiscal strapped. In my mind such irresponsible behavior is a slap in the face to you and all the taxpayers of not only Lynn but all taxpayers across the Commonwealth who are asked to subsidize our lack of fiscal restraint.

Because the move goes against the charter, I understand it involves a Home Rule petition and you will be asked to vote on it. I strongly urge you to vote AGAINST it. It is only fair.

HOME RUNS IN AND OUT OF THE PARK

Wow the NAVIGATORS sure hae stepped up to the plate for LYNN SCHOOLS! Happening about now players are at HARRINGTON fora dunk tank I think, maybe CONNERY. I got so much going on I can't keep my head straight. Anyway I think they will both be at the FRIDAY FIREWORKS game. I do know FORD SCHOOL will be represented there through a FUNDRAISING promotion with the HIGHLANDS COALITION. It is also actually ST. MARY;S special night so the place will be packed!

BUT.....

CHOMPS is appearing tonight at the FORD SCHOOL talent show. I wonder what talent that GATOR has? Then tomorrow is the 2nd annual SCHOOL DAY where FIFTH GRADERS  across the city are treated to a game!

The NAVIGATORS don't quit there, no sirree SATURDAY they're ponied up and the MARSHALL MUSTANGS hitch up for a night of excitement. BASEBALL IS BACK BIG TIME!
