SHE HAS AN ART FOR ART
Lynn English High School junior Jamie Mah carries a sketch pad with her pretty much wherever she goes, but art teacher Martha Brown said that’s not unusual.
“What’s unusual is you never know what kind of art supplies she’ll pull out of her backpack,” she said. “It could be a glue gun or some wire or whatever.”

DEBATE DITTIES & DIVERSIONS
Interesting Debate tonight put on by HIGHLANDS COALITION at the FORD SCHOOL. Some people told me I did well but I think they were just trying to be kind. I don't think I speak well. I don't get nervous or intimidated, I just have too many ideas coming in at one time and let's face it I sometimes it's hard to understand
DONNA was spot on the questions. She successfully was able to frame her answers in such a way that was relevant to the audience. She was in control of the answers. MARIA successfully pointed out that JOHN FORD was not the leader on ESL that both he and CHARLIE claimed to be. The ESL program at LVTI was actually priced out of the people who need it most's range but thanks to THE NEW LYNN COALITION subsidy, the program was successful not because of anything MR. FORD did.
Then there was MELISSA. She was WRONG again for the SECOND time. The successful night school program was NOT created with the proceeds from eliminating one teaching position. I am NOT going to offer my opinion on the WISDOM of this idea.BUT what I will do is lay out the the facts here for you to form your own opinion.
With class size being a concern with everyone, how would having one less teacher help reduce them. And I don't think the TEACHER'S UNION would be in agreement to such an arbitrary elimination of a position, The ESL portion of the night school I believe was paid for with TITLE 1 money and the GED classes was paid for through private money because DR. LATHAM felt GED classes were not an appropriate use of TITLE 1 money.
LORRAINE seemed lost in GATELY'S WORLD. She seemed totally unprepared for the questions. What makes this most troubling is that most of the questions were ones that were already answered by federal and state regs.. How many years has she been teaching?
REASON FOR REFUSAL ITEM-IZED
News in the paper from last night's DEBATE:
Challenger Stanley Wotring said he’s been attending School Committee meetings for three years and, as a candidate, refused to take any donations so he could be an objective member of the committee.

CANDIDATE'S CAMPAIGN STRATEGY REVEALED FROM COMPUTER
Requesting anonymity, a HIGH-LEVEL source in the WOTRING SCHOOL COMMITTEE SAGA leaked the following campaign plan. The details of the top-secret disclosure detailed a simple FOREST AND TREES diversion or was that inversion. No matter the source said, :The key noted the strategist turned traitor is that WOTRING wants to strip away all the pageantry of the performance so the truth can be exposed"/
"That's why you won't see any signs cluttering up anybody's yard or sticking to any bumper. He feels that anybody can wallpaper their bathrooms with reams of campaign literature. It's that personal connection you will remember."
Anonymity was requested in lieu of of risking a contempt charge for not appearing before council on the advice of counsel/

FORD SCHOOL TO BE NAMED A SUPER SCHOOL
IMAGINE LEARNING has named FORD SCHOOL an IMAGINE NATION SUPER SCHOOL for 2012-2013. The award comes with TWO plaques, one for the school and one for the district plus a banner acknowledging the accomplishment for the school.
IMAGINE LEARNING is a computer based tutorial program first started I believe in the SPED DEPARTMENT and quickly expanded thanks to EUNICE ALDERICH and the ELL DEPARTMENT. Both departments have slightly different programs but both have enjoyed phenomenal success. I am pretty sure that other elementary schools use this program as well in different ways. In fact, I believe INGALLS received some sort of distinction last year. Of course I would welcome comments providing additional information.
I would say this program along with the FIRST-IN-MATH program played a major part in FORD SCHOOL barely missing LEVEL 2 status. Considering the high SPED population and the almost 50 different languages spoken there, that was a remarkable achievement.
This only reinforces what I've been saying, that the future of education is in technology not in new big fanancy buildings with shiny doorknobs.

PITCH PERFECT PLEASE
Last night at the FORD SCHOOL/OPEN HOUSE/HIGHLANDS COALITION HARVEST FAIR parents were treated to tune that was in tune and on key from the FORD SCHOOL CHOIR. I don't know the name of the MUSIC teacher but he deserves a heap of accolades.
Now I don't have an ear for music, they're just big but I swear I didn't hear a sour note. Even the hand pressed apple cider was sweet. (mine by the way was pressed by KIDS)

PICKERING GETS GROSS(MAN)ED OUT
Grossman: New Pickering will be built| www.itemlive.com |
“It’s not a question of whether this project gets into the pipeline, it’s a question of when it gets...
Isn't that special. This made a nice photo op. The ink is barely dry on the 93 MILLION DOLLAR BOND BALLOT. Did we really need a visit from the traveling circus to tell us that? A simple fly over could have gleamed the same information. Not only have we not begeun to see the actual costs, we haven't even broken ground for the NEW WOTRING WING. DID YOU REALLY EX[ECT ME TO GIVE UP ON THAT?
Pure political pageantry. An exercise in the obvious. I would have preferred the money spent on that political show been spent in the classroom.

REMEMBER THEY WERE PART OF THE "FIRST-IN-MATH" PILOT
Notice I don't think this ranking is part of any artificial Commissioner's districy. After all there is no such thing as an urban diploma. Good Job!
Lynn Woods is #6 on a list of the top 15 Massachusetts elementary schools for math standardized testing growth.
